We could spend less on some other random dude (say 40m) and that could prove to be a turd in this league. We cannot afford to makes risks financially either. If it costs us an extra day 20m now it’s not that bad considering what we are very likely to get from the player in the next 8 years or so. Going forward we wouldn’t have to spend again to replace him in the team with another player. We can put that money we have towards other positions/academy for the next 8 years instead of taking risks and upgrade player x at RCB two times over if unlucky. But it would feel even more massive if it was the same amount for two players that don’t prove to be big hits for us. We know what we get here. It also raises the stature of our club as it’s a bit of a statement signing. It will also help us to attract other players around going forward, even if only slightly.
