See, when we play badly and win or draw, it's about the performance. When we play well and lose, it's about the result.

That was a poor performance and a decent result, so naturally we're all going to talk about the performance rather than the result.

Dropping points to a side below us (again) and that started the day in the bottom 3 isn't a decent result if you want to be getting top 7 imo. "We're usually shit at venue x" I find reductionist.

This wasn't Liverpool we were playing - we shouldn't have to manage a game against a team that has barely scored a goal all season.  We should have gone for the jugular after the 1st goal and finished them off - instead we just sat back.

You have to manage a game whoever you’re playing and we did have any number of corners and FKs around the area second half, was hardly like we just sat back at all.

One man's reduction is another man's evidence.

Because we played well there way back in 2013 but lost there in 2015 and 2020 etc etc aren't justifications for 1 shot and 0 on target against a side in the bottom 4 for me, like.

A decent result? They’re third from bottom ffs, have one England international and have since been touting him as “world class”, meanwhile we have Brazilian, Swedish and Italian internationals yet we’re all meant to be happy with a “decent” point.

Look, I’m a big fan of what Howe has achieved but I believe when the dust seemed settled and he leaves then his league position will average around 8th. Question is will the owners be happy with that and think it’s “decent”.

Styles make matches, time and time again we struggle against sides that don’t mind us having the ball. It’s a very noticeable trend at this point.

We built a team to press, when we can’t deploy that we look lost. Same old.

No one's making that argument. The performance was poor, albeit we played most of it without a striker. The result, with historical context, is decent.

Never been how football works though is it?

They've beaten Spurs, drawn with Man United, and Liverpool only beat them 1-0 at home. Our record there is poor, a 0-0, 1-0 loss or 1-1 is par.

Thanks again to @Hovagod for providing me a ticket for this 2 seasons in a row, although the 2 games have not been the most enjoyable!

Gutting to concede last minute. Again the problems of not having adequate cover for Isak are laid bare as we passed the ball around well at times but created nothing except the goal. It was a disjointed attacking display but Wilson coming on for those last 20 mins gave us a focal point to aim for and we looked better as an attacking force. I thought after the goal we generally controlled the midfield and was convinced we were going to come away with the win, keeping the ball up at their end pretty well. Tonali looked solid. Also I was annoyed that the ref awarded us a last minute free kick and then immediately blew when the ball was in the air

Final thought, how can they get away with this view?

Saving grace is only liverpool is really putting any form together.

Easiest start to the season in a very long time for us and we botched it.

Your second sentence kind of neutralises the first.

Didn't manage to see the game but the stats, xG and the opinions I've read tell the story quite well. Sounds like another game where we created virtually nothing and somehow spawned a point out of it and were only 2 minutes away from getting all 3 points. It's just not sustainable in the medium and long terms, playing well and being unlucky suggest it'll turn and the points will come eventually if good performances are maintained. Playing poorly, creating/converting very few chances and dropping points is much harder to put a shine on.

Howe's going to have to pull this around pretty quickly and the club looks like it's hit the wall in the last 12 months both on and off the park. All momentum that was there has gone, the intensity has gone, the threat we offer is often minimal and our play looks stale and predictable. He needs to find answers quickly or he'll be sacked whether we agree with it or not.

Think its a standard result for the season were having/going to have. We'll finish upper midtable they'll probably finish lower midtable (though hope they go down), looking back nobody will bat an eyelid at that result it would be that typical. Allowing for forgetting how disjointed a performance and bad a game it was
