Newcastle United 3-0 Aston Villa - 26/12/24

Looking back at the first goal, we would not be scoring that goal with Burn at left back. Hall bombing on the overlap confuses Cash giving Gordon plenty of time and space to pick his spot.

Burn used to pride himself in making overlaps. He'd have been bombing down the touch line for little personal reward.

Double checked and Bruno's goal clearly comes off the defender. Looked like it was going wide, or at best on to the post without so I reckon should have been an own goal.

Didn't affect anything but probably was something VAR missed. I presume they assumed it went in off Bruno and didn't check for anything else.

Yeah just watched this and you’re right, VAR got it wrong as Bruno wouldn’t have been the scorer and therefore not a ‘factual’ handball

Was that villa coach that got sent off the one with the shoulder length blonde hair?

He really fucking annoys me even though I've never spoken to him, heard him speak or know anything about him.

Definitely a twat though.

Wasn't him, but you dislike him because of his hair ?  Or because his first name is Austin ? image.png.c556efcddebf93554c4432780ede12ea.png

With you on this, no idea why but I’ve a massive dislike for him too

You lot are ridiculously precious. Bless.

Not repeating myself. It would've been a very hard game 11 v 11. Toss of a coin from what I saw unfold between Gordon scoring and Duran seeing red.

They had one or two nice patterns of play in the first half hour that resulted in nothing, but beyond that we did most of the running. I genuinely interesting in what you saw that makes you think it was a coin toss of a game at the point we where 1-0 up.

The irony

You know I take it all back. At no point between Gordon scoring and Duran getting sent off did Villa start pressing us effectively and start to control territory. They didn't look at all threatening and Duran getting sent off made zero difference to game.

It's the leap that a 10-15min minute period after conceding that they're looking more likely to win the game

They played well after conceding first against us last season and got battered 5-1. Games are longer than 15 mins

Emery going bananas about the red and saying they’ll appeal. Might be wrong. But I don’t remember many genuine protests from their players. Duran and the rest of them all knew he was guilty.

Genuinely don’t know what the fuck people are seeing. Had all the time in the world to get out the way. Thought the left was accidental at first, but that looks worse the more you see it. The right is not even up for debate IMO.

Also, this whole ‘did he mean to’ (he clearly did) is kind of irrelevant, no? Plenty of studs up and stamp type tackles often don’t seem deliberate. But are still red cards. Curtis Jones last year at Spurs. Sadio Mane one year on Ederson for a high boot are examples that spring straight to mind.

Mainly that their press has us pushed deep and they were starting to control more territory. We were finding it hard to keep the ball and also progress it.

Then about ten minutes before the sending off, we definitely got a better handle on things. But when I made the post, the game had definitely swung towards Villa looking very strong even being a goal down.

Remind me to never consider how a game might pan out until whatever percentage of time you deem suitable has passed.

Not getting further dragged down into this by joeyt, for heavens sake.

You were the one that said after 15 minutes that Villa looked more likely to win despite them being a goal down and not even having a shot at that stage

Just had a couple of pints with a staunch Villa fan. In short since they beat us 3:0 EH has learned and the only manager that’s had UE’s number.

I've been expecting Villa to get found out by other managers for a while, I thought it would happen last season but no other team seems able to exploit their high line like we do.
