He's the best midfielder in the league. Swap Isak for Hojlund next season and we finish above you. Unfortunately Isak is off to Arsenal though. Losing him to Arsenal for £150m woundn't be the end of the world. The money would go straight back into the team, giving us a more balanced squad. Disco
Kepa Munoz - Saliba - Murillo - Robinson Rodgers - Tonali - Mac Allister Salah - Isak - Mbuemo Bit annoying Mbuemo is out of position but needs must. Turns out there’s few particularly good RBs at the moment too, was not aware.

MagPar
I'd have big Dan in their. His goalward headers are like Brazilian free kicks. Tries like a bear every minute of every match too. Love the guy.

I think Palmer is a fair shout - As poor as he's been of late he has still got 15 goals and 10 assists - that's more goal involvements than Mbeumo and Rodgers. Cronky
Whilst I don't like siding with the enemy, and I think it's great that Big Dan is having such a fantastic climax to his career, I didn't see him as team of the year material at all. There's a reason why centre back is one of our top priorities in the next transfer window. He lacks pace, he's cumbersome on the ball and although his height means he wins a lot of headers, he's not actually as good in the air as you might expect. Getting that bulky 6foot 6inch frame off the ground is not easy. Stick a 5foot 9inch South American midfielder in front of him and he'll clean up, of course. He does well because of his strength and his experience, but also because of Eddie's amazing way of organising our defending in general. The abiding wonder for me over the last 3 years has been how few goals we concede, despite the limitations of many individual players. As for Fernandes, he never even popped into my head as a candidate, which is unfair because he is a very good player. There's something annoying about both him and his club though. I'm not saying he's bad obviously, I think he's a very good footballer, but putting him in a team of the season for this year is laughable really. It doesn't matter how much he's saved this that or the other, there are just plenty of other players who've done more and played better.

Think the eye test is the ultimate test, but stats are hard to argue with. When a central midfielder is averaging nearly 40 G&A a season for like 8 years straight, when do people take notice? This season has been one of his best for us believe it or not. A season that has also made me feel very sorry for him.

I think Bruno Fernandes is a very good and underrated player, but he isnt getting into team of the season in the PL this year.

I think Bruno Fernandes is a very good and underrated player, but he isnt getting into team of the season in the PL this year. I was absolutely putting in players who I think have had the best season to be honest. This has been one of his best for us. The Guardian summed it up well to be fair. They have him in their team of the year: "In a dismal season for United, Fernandes has been one of the few bright spots. Ruben Amorim’s captain has worn criticism throughout his United career but only Kevin De Bruyne (90) has more assists across all competitions in Europe’s top five leagues than Fernandes (80) since the Portuguese joined United in 2020. Fernandes has eight goals and nine assists this season but what is less noticed is his effectiveness in deeper areas. Only Ryan Christie and Moisés Caicedo have more ball recoveries than Fernandes, who also leads the league (by a distance) in progressive passes (231)." You lads won't know about his effectiveness in deeper areas, or his progressive passes etc. which is fair as you don't watch him. He has been phenomenal this season, which is why I'm scared of losing him because we're just so shit everywhere else despite how amazing he has been. Displayname
No I havent been watching him like a hawk, I have watched a couple of Man United games though. And in everyone of them your team got ran all over in the midfield.
Lush Vlad
You can’t really argue with his attacking output. I’m not having the ball recoveries one as a useful metric here, mind. Man U’s midfield is wide open and they get played through at will. Of course he’s going to get no end of opportunities to recover the ball. It’s a bit like the duels one for our Bruno. He is so slow and almost actively wants to get in a duel every time he has the ball. It’s his way of beating players, it seems

Looking at some of the other brilliant players who've been in it over the years, being in it more than once is rarer than you'd think. Aguero, Kane, Terry, Cole, and Lampard were only in it twice. Boey_Jarton
Bruno F is a wonderful player. However, if Man U's talismanic captain midfielder can still get in a PL team of the year, in a season where they are 16th with 2 games to go, and on a points total low enough for relegation, then it really does hit home how truly dogshit the rest of the team must have been. That's not the case at all under Amorim. The wing backs have been a glaring weakness though. Obviously been some games where we've been poor as well and completely lost the midfield battle, but Bruno Fernandes having the third highest ball recoveries in the league isn't a stat to be sniffed at. It's pretty incredible really. 9 minutes ago, Boey_Jarton said: Bruno F is a wonderful player.
