I think that's why we/EH is being so 'cautious' with him and talking up how long it'll take him to get up to speed in training, never mind match ready.

Perhaps trying to keep him so he's only just returning as their players are heading to the tournament so we can argue he shouldn't go as he's only just returning for us.

He should not been anywhere near that tournament given how much we need him and how much his choice of international side has cost us so far.

Should've chosen to play for Norway, we are usually generous enough to rest players when their club wish for it.

Might take pelters for this but I think it's absolutely absurd for people on here to expect a player of any nation to forego international duty.

Strongly of the belief that those saying he should fob it off would never say the same if this was a 29 year old England national.

Obviously circumstances have made it ultra shite for us, but c'est la vie.

Still excited to see what Wissa can do for us once he's up to match fitness.

Shearer retired from international duty at 29 to focus on staying fit for Newcastle.  And I never met anyone on Tyneside who was upset with that decision

Wissa will be selected as long as he makes himself available, as he should be.  Being annoyed with players getting injured in internationals isn’t a racist thing - I don’t give a flying fuck about international football.  Newcastle winning a corner gets me more excited than England winning a game.  The AFCON’s timing and regularity is a complete pisstake mind.

Good lad. Have his signed shirt framed a couple of feet away.

Aye international football is wank. Just an inconvenience in the league season and adds to an already long season.

Obviously enjoy the World Cup and euros (don’t care who wins it like) but it’s shite in general imo.

100% - and the WCs and Euros are basically tolerated by me because they (usually) don’t impact the regular season for their final tournament.  Their qualifiers do, and that fucks me off.

Even if he doesn't go to AFCON, there's little chance Wissa changes much for a while as a starter. He's going to have to work up to fitness and learn about this team.

I really hope we don't pile pressure on. Howe has the tools to be doing much better already without risking him.

What was the point in paying massive, overflated fees for "PL ready" players if we then say they need 3-6 months to settle in?

It was a last minutes panic buy, Brentford played us to perfection.

Agree, but also like some asshole pointing a gun at you and demand money, you either say yes and cough it up or say no and hopefully don't die right then and there. Was kind of a dire situation.

We had to look elsewhere long before that, we left it to the last minute. We knew Isak was going long before he actually did.

Can't argue against that. No idea what really went on but at the point we pulled the trigger it was pretty necessary.

We were bidding for him from mid-July. Panicking would have been walking away after the first bid and moving down the list. Howe clearly wanted him.

We panicked because we resolutly refused to move on and ended up getting absolutely rinsed.

Having a valuation for a player and moving on when a club demands double isn't panicking, it's good business. Only mugs pay double.

That's if you're naive thinking clubs bid what they'll go up to from the first offer.

Eh? We were chasing him for weeks. ??? Hope first linked us to him in early July. Everything was just stuck because of the Isak thing.

More referring to the point of us spending 55m on a 29year old whos had just 1 20 goal season in his career.

The panic being we left it until the last minute and ended up paying a huge premium.

He got injured?

Exactly 😂 He might’ve scored a number of goals already had he not got injured and nobody would be saying anything about the fee  🤷🏽‍♂️
