Our keepers have been shite, but there's been increased pressure on our defence all season because we've not scored as many goals. Holding on to a 2 or 3 goal lead is easier than a 1 goal lead

Oh shit. You actually ARE blaming all of this season on Woltemade. [emoji38]

Isak to Wolter is the biggest drop off in quality we've had this season. Second is the keepers.

It certainly makes more sense than suggesting that the rest of the squad forgot how to play their positions

Wissa was supposed to supply the majority of the goals we lost through Isak. Arguably him and Elanga have been a far more important cause of our poor season.

This is a reply to you, a direct quote to a sad troll cunt.

My other post was my take on the season and Woltemade's role in it. The players forgetting how to play their positions but was because someone earlier suggested that earlier.

Hope you're able to follow the conversation now

I mean, Wissa missed most of the season through injury. He's not been much cop since he returned mind. Elanga has been poor too but we've had other players in his position to play.

Woltemade had the forward position to himself for most of the season and it hasn't worked

For debating Woltemade is the only reason for us being shit?

Thanks for clarifying the second part. I thought it was directed at me.

I didn't say the only reason. I said the main one. Certainly more of a reason than the rest of the squad being unable to play 4-3-3 which was the suggestion

It'd be much easier if each post was signed so we knew whether it was from Mills or Boon

Our misfiring attack is absolutely the principal on-pitch reason for why we've faltered this season. Everything has stemmed from that. Second is shit goalies.

Woltemade isn't to blame though. There was no expectation on him to come in and be the main man, that was just forced upon him and he's blown mostly cold with a bit of hot.

Gordon and later Osula have dug us out of a hole as far as formulating a vaguely functioning attack goes. If we'd persisted with Woltemade for 38 games at CF we're probably a lot closer to the relegation zone.

Could be that after 3-4 years of playing it, teams have found ways to exploit it.

It's a mixture of things, this and well... Pretty much all wingers not providing the way they should, Tonali not playing at the level and well anyone in the midfield not called Bruno.

Woltemade is very different to Isak so expecting him to slide in that spot and give the team the same outlet is asking for well what we got.

I'm glad we have finally seen changes to the approach as the season ended. If you could find a striker you hit early and often then maybe it could work to a decent level? But due to players getting older and teams defending it better it was always going to end up like this eventually.

Like City over the years have changed multiple times so this was inevitable to happen at some point. Just depends how everyone reacts next season.

Wingers getting a lot of stick. Barnes output is similar to any winger in the top 3 I think aside from Semenyo.

Strikers, goalie's and predictable approach are the biggest issues.

They get a lot of stick because the way Howe plays they have a lot of responsibility to not only score but create opportunities.

None of this was done this to the required level, it might seem harsh but it's the reality. But yes everything being equal (nothing ever is but let's pretend it is) Barnes has been productive enough but there's more to it than just your raw output.

If you ask me though, nobody in the front 6 positions have performed to the required standard this year except maybe Bruno.

Also the wingers not performing to the level required is part of why we are so predictable to defend against anyway.

Nick is a bit of an enigma, he has skill and talent that doesnt fit his frame. Its a bit unfortunate that he has the shooting power that would embarrass the de Jongs.

For much of the season the Xg and Xga stats suggested otherwise. And there's been plenty of occasions Murphy has delivered an excellent cross and nobody is there to meet it. The biggest contributor to his lack of assists isn't his own performance IMO (which has been up and down) but a lack of a quality striker to finish off the crosses he still provides.

the strikers have been a far bigger problem than the wingers.

Like the wingers largely did what they were doing last season (those that were here), it's Isak missing that's changed everything.
