gjohnson
What happened to strikers who can shoot. The ones that want goals regardless of "xG" stats. The selfish buggers who will hammer towards goal when team mates might be better placed. The ones who say f**k this and just welly it. Cisse was probably the last one we had. Yes it's frustrating when a speculative shot ends up flying into orbit, but more entertaining than tippy toeing at the edge of the 18 yard line, just to pass back to defence
The College Dropout
Not worthy of a thread. There's a long trend in football to less long shots because they are less likely to score. It's proven to be better to try and create a better goalscoring opportunity - obviously. Slight change in that trend with a few clubs. It's getting harder to create better opportunities in the PL. Defences are better by the man and better prepared to nullify by coaches. Players like Haaland are an unstoppable force. And even Semenyo is similar. Too big, too strong, too quick, too skilful and he's shoot on sight.

AyeDubbleYoo
The amount of people at the match who shout shoot when there’s absolutely no chance to score is more my worry.

Used to be funny when it was Tiote or Schar from halfway but wish they’d pack it in.

TRon
I done a similar thread recently but it was just our shit shooting in general, not specific to strikers. The lack of options from free kicks would suggest we don't really have many natural strikers of the ball.

In both the CL and the PL. 6 shots in the first half alone at Qarabag. Ekitike was quite wasteful in the Bundesliga last year but has looked clinical in the much harder PL. Gordon's finishing may improve too. He'll score tons if it does. He gets into good positions and in PFM speak "buys many tickets for the raffle". You get taught more about movement and shot placement, for higher percentage chances of scoring.

The best strikers...Shearer, Kane, Real Ronaldo, Batistuta, Vieri...while all great poachers all had a 25-30 yard shot in their game which would more often than not end as a goal
HawK
Personally a fan of long shots as long as they're on target - you get a good chance at either a corner or rebound attempt, let alone a goal sometimes Edited February 27 by HawK
Fak
It feels like there's probably only really Szoboszlai in the league at the moment who reguarly pings one from distance.

Aye Bruno Fernandes is capable as well. But I mean it only really feels like Szoboszlai is the only one who isn't ashamed to have multiple pops from distance in one game. Based on no statistically research at all, I don't think the likes of Rogers or Buendia etc. have as many shots in a match as Szoboszlai
