Newcastle United vs. Manchester United: 4/3/26 @ 20:15 (TNT Sport)

Recommended Posts

Big game this one. Newcastle at home are always intense, especially with that crowd behind them. United are unpredictable this season — can look great one week and completely off the pace the next.

If Newcastle start fast and press high, I can see them causing real problems. But if United control midfield and slow the tempo down, it could swing the other way.

My gut says it’ll be tight. Maybe a 2-1 either way.

Which is fair, but it feels like Elanga has been Howe's main target for ages now. Feels like if your funds and wages were unlimited that Elanga would have still been one of the first through the door.

Feels like he's immune from criticism because of the incredible job he has done so far.

He's been criticised plenty.

Not by me, granted, and I wouldn't criticise him for his recruitment choices especially - even Elanga, who we had a free run at like you say. He and Wissa have been duds so far but both have been playing at levels way, way below what they did for previous clubs. I can't really blame the manager for that; he didn't elect to sign this version of these players.

I think the Elanga think is overstated by our fans anyway. He's been poor but he isn't the reason why we've regressed; he replaced Miguel Almiron. We've not lost anything by his signing, on the pitch anyway (remains to be seen what the financial repercussions will be).

The biggest issues with the personnel is Wissa and not getting a goalkeeper. Brentford's Wissa and Trafford in the side all season and I reckon we're easily in the top 8.

They aren't a great team, sign of this season's premier league when you look at their position.

Still, they've turned it around since Carrick came in without looking anything special. We can win, but not if we gift them goals. If they score more than 1 they'll win.

We went for Mbuemo and Elise before Elanga anyway that we know of. Think it was actually Yorkie who said it a couple of days ago, but if we actually got Howe's signings we'd have Joao Pedro, Mbuemo, Guehi & Trafford. PSR is a massive reason why none of that came off, our number 9 went on strike, and our sporting director fucked off at the start of the window

Haven't really watched them since Carrick took over but I'd agree they are well beatable by a team well set up to exploit their weaknesses. I don't think that's us though, and even if they aren't a great team, they do have a few outstanding players.

I like your posts but this a wild take. Almiron’s pressing was instrumental in our early success. It was worth far more to us than his and Elanga’s offensive outputs combined.

I loved Miggy but he stopped being useful before the start of last season and left in January. Elanga filled an empty space.

I like you way too much.

It's not even that I hate the PSR excuse, it's that I hate when it's the only excuse.

It's a very valid excuse, though. You've been able to mis-spend for the best part of a decade, but throw enough mud at it, some will stick, like it has now..

We've recruited pretty solidly for 3 and a half years, have one poor window, and it's going to set us back massively.

How the fuck is that fair?

How do you know that it's going to set you back massively?

Are you expecting to spend very little in the summer?

You're using a hypothetical situation.

They all no doubt got double the wages not signing for us, we have the right targets just not anywhere near big enough for them to sign yet.

And Ashworth who helped oversee the likes of Hall, Livramento, Tonali & Barnes was poached from the project by a club who could spend far more freely than we can.

Would like to just see 532 or 352 with Wolte in the 10 just to see if it works for a bit. Playing how we are isn’t going to get us Europe so we should do something different.

Miggy was a pressing monster, better defensively, and also carried the ball well, atleast until he neared the byline and had no clue what to do anymore.:lol:Bizarrely Almiron also had a better g/a per 90 than what Elanga has had so far, which I can only assume is down to Elangas lack of confidence.
