Mattoon
It beggars belief the level of negativity after a win. Was it a game of the ages? No. Did we win? Absolutely! So it wasn't pretty in parts, but we looked like scoring every time we went forward in the first half, but after such a poor run of games we started to look nervy, so many times we've conspired to throw away a lead this season and it has absolutely knocked our confidence. But we dug in, we handled the pressure, we rode our luck at times, but we got the rub of the green which haven't when we've played better at times this season and we were the ones to deal the sucker punch that we're usually on the receiving end of. Wins build confidence and confidence builds momentum and momentum builds swagger, so thats stage one complete albeit too late in the season to affect much but we were never going to go out there and dominate 90 minutes after such a tumultuous season, we did what we needed to and we won by any means possible and we won by deserving to win, even if it was ugly at times. I can't be anything but positive and happy about that.

LA Toon
Hard work but we won. At least Wissa made up for the sitter he missed. Pope? A couple of good saves from where I sat, however his passing and kicking was poor. Anyway goodbye Newcastle until next year. Ashley17
The team Eddie picked had me worried but pretty much to a man they justified him. It reminded me a bit of the first Howe season when he took us to safety, not sure if it was intentional to go back to that sort of style but inviting them on and playing on the counter proved the correct choice. I always find when we win in this manner there’s lots of “thank goodness Brighton missed their chances” which is all well and good but doesn’t factor in Thiaw having a shot saved from 5 yards, Osula 1 on 1 (flagged offside but was on), Joelinton not just squaring it, Wissa blazing over and various other less glaring chances. Pope saved a shot in the first minute, saved an overhead kick and Minteh missed a sitter. He also blasted one off them for fun, but it was hardly a smash and grab win. Pope - This season in a nutshell for him. Some good, some bad. Needs replacing. Miley - Understatedly brilliant I thought. Minteh trying to to outrun him a few times was funny. Burn - Fine, I think we would all rather Hall but that doesn’t really take away from his performance. When we are setting up in this manner, it makes sense I suppose Thiaw - Sloppy in possession but defended well Botman - Best game for a while, I thought. Dealt with Welbeck Tonali - The usual. Does a lot of groundwork but not the best on the ball again Bruno - Grafts so hard in there for the right to play. Good ball out to Murphy Joelinton - A warrior as always, nice to see him still have some power in his running. Did a job as a sort of wide left Willock - Pace caused them issues, not much quality in the final third though Murphy - Actually an incredible cross considering he was on his arse a minute earlier. He is what he is, he will put in a couple of good balls a game and be average to poor the rest of the time. Put a cone on his head and made the chairman laugh Osula - A total handful, easily his best game for us. Wissa - at least he tried today, he’s just out of form. Ironically one of his better cameos for us Hall - good attitude when he came on, good presence of mind with a really quick throw too. Hopefully back in the side soon Barnes - enjoy that he was on and not Gordon. Took the goal well Ramsey - was also there

Yorkie
Some additional thoughts after watching the extended highlights: Our first was a really good goal all in. Superb bit of build-up play, great ball from Bruno, great instincts from Murphy and Osula clinical at the critical moment. Not the goal of a team absolutely bereft of confidence. Osula looks like he's really come on. Can't knock his form at the minute; credit to him for taking the opportunity and credit to the manager for backing him. Loathe to start an argument but the idea of Woltemade being more deserving of the place is pretty mad imo. Their goal was brilliant football. One-touch football we can only dream of. If they were at that for much of the game the ln we've done well to keep them to one. Re the third; hadn't spotted the deflection from the keeper on Wissa's pass on the short highlights. Safe to say he got a bit lucky but you can make the case he earned that luck having won the ball in the first place. Absolutely desperate for him to get into gear for us. Eddie giving the love heart sign up to his wife in the crowd was absolutely lovely.
LFEE
On a different note. Still not convinced with the Brighton GK and CH we get linked to. Don’t see any major upgrade with either considering fees likely involved. Edited May 3 by LFEE

Lenny
Would be fun to see Pope try to deal with that back pass (even though I'm sure he could have actually just picked it up)

He wasn’t exactly friendly/professional towards Eddie either. Wonder if it was to do with aggression/things said during the match or is a more long standing issue?
