Na you’re right, but it’s annoying that it broke early last week we were close, then bang out of nowhere Liverpool have got the deal done. The more we monitor and haggle, you 100% leave the door open to other clubs coming in. It's no one's fault but ours. He wanted to come to us and we agreed terms. Hijacked deals are the absolute worst. Last season we couldn’t bring in any of our first choices, or even second choices. If the same happens again then we do have to question what is going on, when other clubs that are outside the cartel manage to land their targets. They have been talking to his agent the whole time, and the holdup in "completing" the deal was simply his agent stalling for time while calling Liverpool to ask if they won't trigger his release clause. If we had triggered his release clause two weeks earlier, than Liverpool would have just signed him then. There is realistically no way for us to sign any player if one of the "big clubs" has an interest in them, and we are going to get beaten to signings more often than others because we typically go after a better class of player, because we aspire to be one of the "big clubs" ourselves. If there is incompetence baked into this process it is only because we are targeting good players to begin with, when perhaps we should be aiming lower.
