It was a completely different ground then, in every way possible. For league games the atmosphere was pretty poor, only a few - and the Fairs Cup games - was the crowd rocking. 60000 Geordies shouting their hearts out. 

Going to the present day St James's, it's a totally different ground. 

A complete refurbishment will make it a completely different ground again. Capacity won't allow a new generation of fans to experience what I experienced.

For heavens sake, move to a new 'state of the art' ground with an 80000 capacity and let everyone experience the thrills of watching our team, and let the world look on in awe! 

I've lived in many houses in my life and loved them all. We all move on in life and learn to love new things. 

I, for one, ache to see the new ground in all it's majestic splendour. 

 

I’m near 50 and have not experienced as many iterations of the ground as you but 100% agree.  This is exactly how I feel.

Ultimately I think most of this comes down to your final question. Is it worth losing SJP for? IMO, SJP is in a fantastic location, and that’s all I’d be concerned about losing. Providing any new build is city centre, IMO, any loss would be negligible.

Yeah. I honestly wish that they used the event to put forward more details, like the two full plans, location, time scales, renders etc. If they did, then we would now have a clear view of what’s on the table.

Those who have reservations about moving may have their concerns eased.

Similarly, those of us open to a move may now not be willing if there are compromises.

 

We would know where we stand, and what’s on the table, instead of this constant discussion about what it may or may not entail.

While on record wishing  to explore every possible  avenue to stay in the location (doesn't have to be renovation, completely knocked down and rebuild if we could somehow edge out some more room somehow would be completely fine by me) if we have to move, I hope it's just a short hop to Leazes. I think the current site should be turned into parkland to replace that which is gone but would be nice to have something impressive there, to have something in that place in the city skyline (massive statue of Joelinton???), I would hate for it to be replaced with just more generic student flat buildings.

In all honesty, and this isn’t limited to just NUFC. I honestly think the Premier League needs to start thinking about some compromises in regards to televising games. We all have our opinions on if the 3pm blackout rule should exist or not. I doubt many people would change their mind unless it was scrapped and we see what happens.

 

Anyway, with stadiums being at capacity, all around the country, they really need to think about allowing games to be shown at designated fan parks.

We obviously have the Sela fan park, I believe Aston Villa are building one a similar distance away from Villa Park, and Man City are building one as part of their expansion. It’s stupid that non-televised games can’t be shown at these fan zones.

Teams who have fans locked out due to capacity issues, who can’t even let those fans see their teams play on TV.

Each club should be allowed 1 offsite venue that can show games.

Heck the Premier League could monopolise it themselves and have their own Premier League sports bars located in each city.

I mean the whole country is doing that in anyway.

I have two mates who are police officers who each have one.

A lass who I used to work with was doing a masters degree in criminology, and she was researching why people have one. Nearly every single answer she gained was that it was for the football, primarily for the games that are not shown on TV. Needless to say, she had one.

 

It’s fucking stupid man. Music artists realised in the early 2000’s that you had to make music attainable. So Apple came along with iTunes, convinced the record labels to allow them to sell individual songs for 99p. The pirating networks shut down.

 

Movie networks did similar, allowed for the likes of Netflix to happen, Cinema’s themselves started allowing discounted tickets like Orange Wednesdays, which has morphed into Meerkat Movies, and Amazon Prime Seats etc. The pirating of movies has gone down drastically. To be honest, if football was allowed to be viewed more, then movie pirating would go down even further, as most people only do it because the IPTV they have for football often includes football.
