The way I see it we're only going to do this once so think as big a capacity as possible and build it that size. No point going 65k if it means we're still locking people out every week, we need a much money into the club as possible. If we need to grow into it then fine. If we're pulling in, say, 71k a week at first then that's fine. No point in going smaller then having to expand in 10 years time. Do it right, go big and make it superb. Please

70k is more than enough, I still don't think we would sell an extra 27,000 tickets every home game especially against the likes of Brighton, Forest, Palace, Brentford, Fulham, Wolves plus whoever the newly promoted teams are (for example we got over 52,196 v Southampton, 52,220 v Brighton, 52,235 v Leicester, will be interesting to see what the attendance is for the other teams I mentioned we haven't played at home yet this season.

Even if we sold out 80,000 every week, an extra 27,000 tickets is only around £1.3m extra per game based on £50 a ticket (no idea what the price is these days tbf). PIF know they can make much more off the corporate so id be expect more boxes (maybe going the length of the stadium) and less of the peasant seats that the average joe can afford.

Even if not full at 80k every week, we would still need to pay for the same match day costs like catering, stewards, police etc unless we closed off an entire section

That's an extra £24 million with just the League games alone like, let alone potential European games, and cup competitions.

And that's completely discounting the extra corporate facilities that will be charged £300-£500 a game.

Basically I'm saying the number that you put at the end of this sentence should be the size of the new ground:

"If everything goes according to plan then we might need a ground big enough to hold ................"

Whatever that number is, that's the new capacity imo

We struggle to sell out corporate for some fixtures at the minute from what I remember (Wings).  This will be a concern at executive level.

That’s only semi-corporate.

Boxes are sold out, and have a waiting list of at least 100 companies.

We're literally having to outsource corporate to Hadrians Tower and Fenwicks because SJP can't handle the demand.

I think it's well established that a project like this would cost hundreds of billions, diamonds or not. Look at the Metro for heaven's sake!

Hundreds of billions is an old forum joke.

However, a new stadium has been estimated to cost up to £4bn, the Sofi stadium in LA cost $5bn.

Is there any news information in that article?

Nope just a rehash of stuff that came out of the night at the stack ages ago except this one chunk of txt

Interestingly, Chronicle Live understands that club insiders have now seen some images and early drafts on what a revamped St James' Park and a new stadium elsewhere in the city could look like. Those images are not yet for public consumption but are believed to be breathtaking according to sources close to the project.

So a pointless article except to confirm that there is a chance when something is released it will come with draft/sample renders

So in one paragraph he describes the stadium as "out of the city" and here it's a new stadium "elsewhere in the city" Ryder cant make up his mind :icon_scratch:
