Is there any news information in that article?

Nope just a rehash of stuff that came out of the night at the stack ages ago except this one chunk of txt

Interestingly, Chronicle Live understands that club insiders have now seen some images and early drafts on what a revamped St James' Park and a new stadium elsewhere in the city could look like. Those images are not yet for public consumption but are believed to be breathtaking according to sources close to the project.

So a pointless article except to confirm that there is a chance when something is released it will come with draft/sample renders

So in one paragraph he describes the stadium as "out of the city" and here it's a new stadium "elsewhere in the city" Ryder cant make up his mind :icon_scratch:

Chronicle website I gave up at ad1

Chronicle website is literally impossible to navigate either on my phone or laptop. It doesn't move properly, things pop up and cover the actual text of the article im attempting to read, and they are constantly trying to get me to read articles that feature mugshots of local scruffs.

I use Wipr 2 on my phone and iPad. No issues with ads/pop ups, site layout.

To be fair, the mugshots of local scruffs are the best thing in the Chronicle these days.

I see this a lot but seriously do people not reject cookies, including legitimate interest cookies, and then have an ad-blocker running? Because that eliminates 90% of the problems.

Yep. Just whack ublock origin on and reject all cookies. It takes seconds and needs no technical expertise.

If you're sat there without doing these things in the back end of 2024 and still reading the Chronicle website unfiltered, then I've very little sympathy.

Excited to see some plans. I may be dreaming here but with the Falcons in trouble and if they fail to find investment Kingston Park stadium could potentially be turned into housing. This would leave nowhere for the women’s team to play.

Could a 10,000-15,000 seated stadium be built next to the new stadium? Would be perfect for big u21 and women’s game. We could also rent it out for Falcons games, Durham cricket games in summer? And smaller giggs helping FFP throughout the year.

Would be great for the city to have local sports teams playing in the city centre.

That would be the step that finally sends RTG over the edge.

Cricket can be ruled out due to the ground requirements (we’d end up with a misshapen ‘second stadium’, like the soulless Gateshead Stadium), plus the fact that Newcastle definitely isn’t in Durham.  I wouldn’t want to see Gosforth RFC renting it off us - and they play in Kingston Park because they’re a Gosforth club historically, not a Newcastle one; playing games in Newcastle city centre doesn’t seem right - plus we already tried the sporting club shite and it was a financial drain, and rugby union doesn’t exactly have a great history of helping the people’s game out of a bind.  Remember when Wembley was rebuilt and we played cup finals at Twickenham during that period?

Me neither.

Why would Durham cricket club want to rent a stadium when they've already got a big one? 😅

Yeah agree on the ground requirements probably not great. My comment was more the odd t20 game to grow the sport. E.g. they already play the odd game in gosforth.

Your rugby comment doesn’t make much sense, Leazes Park is probably closer to gosforth than Kingston Park. Also historically they were Gosforth, they are now Newcastle.

I’d much rather PIF bought The Falcons and helped them and injected cash /  sponsored Durham CCC. Be lovely to see them challenging again after the ECB screwed them over. Any PIF involvement in Durham CCC would mess with Mackem heads as an added bonus.

The money would be a drop in the ocean for PIF and be good for sports fans across the NE.

Kingston Park historically was part of Gosforth, not Newcastle :)

How about investing in Northumberland CCC, which is based in Jesmond, and get them out of being a minor county and sack Durham off?  Works for me.

Hard enough getting the crowds to come and watch one team in the North East, let alone splitting the support.
