We can complain about the rules all we like ( I don't think anyone on here be-moans them as much as me) but they aren't going to be loosened imo so this is the big picture choice that's actual being made.

You can ask and see what people say. A gallowgate expansion doesn't help much with ffp. But obviously would allow more in but the cost probably makes it not viable.

I've been to hundreds upon hundreds of matches at St James' Park and I can remember how things seemed to move so quickly in the nineties, from an open stadium with the club shop in a portacabin to 52,000 seats and what for a time felt like one of the best stadiums in the land. But times change and now I have a child of my own, and I'd like to be able to take her to a game at some point in the not too distant future without her turning to me, with tears in her eyes, and saying 'Daddy, why have you brought me to such a shithole?'.

Don’t think they are talking about road access. They seem to be referring to getting equipment in and out the ground quickly via our one small tunnel. Sky/TNT just need cameras inside the ground. Artists will need big stage  gear and props.

I've taken my 13 year old daughter a few times

 

Upside: We were in the GEC and as we walked in she was blown away by the size of the Milburn & Leazes. Literally gobsmacked.

Downside: Has to queue for fucking ages for a piss. The Fender gigs were the worst, just hundreds of lasses stood waiting for a handful of toilets

Well, not quite   what I meant was that I would rather elite football 2025 didn't require us to be balance sheet champions, and I would rather we played the mackems and Port Vale every week if it meant that we could just get on with enjoying football rather than worrying about the myriad distractions and miseries of PSR and financial fair play.  I'm not representative any more though, I prefer non league to Newcastle these days largely because of the way the game has been subjugated by politics and money.

 

Building in essentially the same place is obviously the least appalling option if we're moving but I just see what people are posting as exemplars of good modern stadium design and I'm  I personally think we'll lose something if the stadium isn't as imposing from the outside as SJP currently is, and given the current penchant for bowls and soft curves I don't think it will be.

I’d imagine so but possibly insufficient for in/out turnaround. Tours these days are literally moving circuses these days on very tight schedules to cram more dates in. Another industry that’s lost out on physical sales and is chasing revenue elsewhere.

 

Also the corner the tunnel is in and shape of stadium might not make logistical sense. Don’t know for sure though. Never been a band on at SJP that I’d want to see so far to see how they set it all up.

I do agree with that, but I also think there’s been a change in the general culture. Even if clubs hadn’t started to focus on older people with money and families, I doubt it would be like it was back then.

I would love a smaller footprint that went UP instead of OUT, proper high thing that would allow easy access for blokes pushing boxes.
