If we are to aim for a top 4 finish in the near future (guess im dreaming) we gotta have a squad which can cope with that ambition. But who in our current squad is good enough to get us there?

I'll say:

Given, Solano, Duff (if he regains form), Owen and Martins.

Taylor, Milner closing in...

Then we got serveal players who under a better manager maybe can develop into better players...

Given, Owen, Martins - as they stand.

Duff, Parker, Emre - under a good manager and return to form.

Taylor, Milner, Zoggy - for the future for sure, but could play their part now.

Butt would be good back-up in them teams apart from Chelsea.

Dyer, Solano, Emre, N'Zogbia and Butt would make the SQUAD.

as would Martins and Duff

I was adding to the original list.

was adding to yours to be honest, Dyer, Solano, Emre, N'Zogbia, Butt, Martins and Duff would make the squad, Owen and Given would make the team

I reckon Milner would make it, if Pennant gets games for Liverpool...

does gerrard not sometimes play on the right though and if you compare him to joe cole and ronaldo you wouldnt class him as top 4 potential

Given,Solano,Owen,Dyer,Duff=they were/are top 4 material imo

Dyer was top player under SBR

Duff was class act at Blackburn and then at Chelsea

Martins,Parker,Emre,Ameobi=under some class manager they can become really top players

Krul,Taylor,Milner,Zoggy,Edgar=very talented players for the future

Butt=very experienced player

Total:15 player

Add 2-3 players to the 1st group

Add 2-3 players to the 2nd group

Add 2-3 players to the 3th group

If we do that then we might have the chance to challenge the top 4

VERY optimistic view, but yes, if you look at some of the players backing up Liverpool for example, your right to consider them fringe players.

But as it stands, Ameobi, Edgar, Solano couldn't possibly be classed as good enough to get into the top 4 squads.

Agree about Ameobi and Edgar but i'll play Solano any day of the week ahead of Fereira for example

There are alot of players in the top 4 teams who arent good enough for them

Let's all remember that Bolo Zenden started a Champions League semi-final for Liverpool, and that Djimi Traore has a winners' medal.

Agree with this, although i'm undecided if Dyer should be on the return to form list. He's good enough on his day but they'd probably only play him RW which he hates (although its cearly his best position imo). Plus he's not proffesional so yes probably right to leave him off.
