Guest
Let's see where he is next summer.
NUFC06
I'll be astonished if he's still there in 18 months time. Can understand his reasoning - won't have to move his family, massive wage, might win things... That said, there's a very good chance he won't get a sniff of a run of games. He's obviously weighed things up and decided to sign for them. No great loss imo. Makelele is leaving this Summer, Balack has been pretty poor and Mikel hasnt been all that good so i think Sidwell will get more games than people think. He's at the bottom of the pile tbh. Not saying he won't play but when it comes to the crunch - he'll be a long way down the list. He might start 10 games if he's very lucky. Yea he's at the bottom but as someone has said African nations is next season so quite a few players will be leaving for a while. Sidwell will get the chance to win things and to play in the CHL so i can understand why he moved there. So can I! (see first post ) But it's barmy to sign for a club when you're only going to play in the month of January. Or whenever it is. The way i see it is, He has a chance to play for 1 of the biggest clubs in England if not the world and has the chance to win things, He's gonna be playing and training with worldclass players and gonna have a chance to play in Europe and on top of that he's gonna be on very good money also his family dont need to move. He wont play week in week out but has a chance to try and prove he can play at the highest level. Basically whats he got to lose? playing 1 game in 1 month will be perfect for his career If he aint happy after a year or so he can request a transfer. End of the day people are saying he's an idiot or whatever but all he has doing is trying prove he's good enough at the top, He's been given the chance and he's taken it, Fuck all wrong with that imo. If it doesnt turn out the way he wants there will be clubs like Us,Villa,Everton willing to take him off Chelsea's hand anyway, Its not as if he throwing his career away. If he was clever enough he might have seen that players like Kezman,Hutt,Parker,SWP,Del Horno,Boulahrouz etc i can name alot more, the point is that this players didnt get regular 1st team football and their careers were regressing at Chelsea. So if he cant see that fact he might thing he is the new Gennaro Gattusso or something. If he went to a club like Tottenham,Everton,Newcastle he would have been 1st team regular and playing every week Nevertheless like you said he wants to compete with the best and wants to play at the highest possible level Fair enough. Nate
He rejected an improved wage offer from West Ham. So, who made the pathetic deicsion, Neill or Sidwell? As i said before, footballers can't win, they're either mercenaries or showing no ambition.
Dr. Nguyen Van Falk
Chelsea and Liverpool were intrested, but he is correct in thinking he would have more chance of 1st team football with us. No they weren't. Oh really?
Dragon55544
Let's see where he is next summer. Yea exactly, Teams like Newcastle will still be interested in him next season but right now Chelsea are giving him a shot so why not take it?
Guest optimistic nit
stupid decision. it is my opinion that really he wouldn't even stand out here. he'd play well, but he'd be far from our star player, going to chelsea is reddiculous. 1 year of PL football, he wasn't exactly brilliant this season either. don't get me wrong he may well have been readings second best player, but put, say, joe cole or obi mikkeal at reading and think how they will have shone. not as good as ashley young (by a fair margin imo), would be a good addition to a 5-8th placed teams midfield and nothing more. Based on Sidwell having 6 people ahead of him for 2 positions, Neill being able to play in 2 positions and fighting with one other for the right back role and Chelsea's history of signing young players, hardly ever playing them and setting back their careers. Yea exactly, Teams like Newcastle will still be interested in him next season but right now Chelsea are giving him a shot so why not take it? Will Sidwell should make sure he gets a fairly low minimum-release clause then, because can you see the likes of us, Villa & Everton wanting to spend £5-6m on a player they could have had for Free a year earlier? Makelele & Ballack may yet leave too. Who knows wether Mourinho rates him above Mikel and Diarra, we'll see.

Still a lot of players ahead of him unless you keep speculating about who MIGHT leave.
Wullie
To be fair to Oliver, and it's not in my nature to be fair to the xenophobic wanker, a number of the nationals, particularly the Times iirc, were saying Sidwell to NUFC was signed and sealed a long time before he was. Well its fairly obvious but for now lets just say he is fighting a lot of players for not many spaces and most people can see he isn't going to win many of the battles.
