To be fair though McDonald and Slaven probably haven't even seen him at right back. McDonald makes things up as he pleases, and i don't think he played right back when he was at the smogmonsters. McDonald thinks Gavin Peacock was a solid centre half before he moved to Chelsea and he also thinks Sasa Curcic was a centre half. Ignore the gobshite. Thanks, the Chelsea forum link was very instructive. As a midfielder on loan for boro, he looked top notch. Sounds like he can do a pretty decent job at RB as well. Another Big Sam Special by the looks of it.

Thanks for that link, as you say most are positive. Sounds good and my optimism has raised another level. Hope Allardyce isn't planning on using him as a RB though.

 

Other thing I noticed about that thread was the absence of swearing, piss-taking and juvenile comments. That was refreshing.

NEWCASTLE United have been granted a work permit for Cameroon star Geremi making the versatile midfielder Sam Allardyce's fourth signing of the summer.

 

The 28-year-old passed a medical and agreed personal terms with the Magpies earlier this week, penning a three-year deal at St.James' after joining on a free transfer from Chelsea.

 

He will join up with his new United team-mates when they return from their training camp in Austria next week.

 

Cameroon international Geremi, who can play in both defence and midfield, has been at Chelsea since 2003, making 72 appearances and scoring four goals.

 

He spent the 2002-03 campaign on loan at Middlesbrough from Real Madrid, and scored seven times in 33 outings for our north east neighbours, including the winner in a Tyne-Tees derby at the Riverside Stadium. That season he was voted Boro's Player of the Year before opting to continue his time in the Premier League with a permanent move to Stamford Bridge.

 

Geremi joined Real in 1999 and played 45 times for the Spanish giants. He began his career at Cameroonian club Racing FC Bafoussam in 1995 before moving to Cerro Porteno in Paraguay two years later for a short stint.

 

After playing six times in South America, he moved on to Turkey in 1997 to join Genclerberligi where he netted nine times in 57 games before leaving for Real Madrid.

 

Geremi made his international debut in 1996 and has 60 caps for Cameroon, scoring six times. He won Olympic gold for his country at the Sydney games in 2000.

Yeah it is! Still many years left for Geremi to perform in the EPL and we've got him in our squad.  Great free transfer.  4 players signed, 3 of proven EPL quality, 1 unknown, yet we have only spent £1.75 million given the Parker transfer.  Allerdyce certainly has done well with transfers.

Agree.  This club has had a history of making signings pretty late in the transfer window, seems Sam has done a lot very early, and we've hardly spent any of our kitty (whatever that amount is I'm sure its much bigger than £1.75 million!).

SAM Allardyce believes Newcastle United have signed a proven winner in Geremi after the Cameroon international became the club's fourth signing of the summer.

 

The Magpies have completed the deal for the 28-year-old, who arrives on a three-year contract from Chelsea on a free transfer.

 

Geremi follows Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal into St. James' Park as Big Sam continues to mould his squad for the 2007/08 campaign.

 

And being able to list Chelsea and Real Madrid on his football CV means the versatile star is no stranger to silverware - and he even owns an Olympic gold medal!

 

During his time at Real from 1999-2003, the Spanish giants tasted La Liga and Champions League glory, while two Premiership medals came his way with the Blues.

 

His Olympic gold came when Cameroon triumphed at the Sydney games in 2000. He was also part of the Indomitable Lions squads that won the African Nations Cup in 2000 and 2002, and each time he proved he had the big-game mentality when he scored in penalty shoot-outs to win finals against Nigeria and Senegal, with former Toon midfielder Amady Faye crucially missing from the spot in the latter game.

 

So it's not surprising that Big Sam is pleased to have Geremi on board, as he told nufc.co.uk: "We've signed a player who is a real winner and who has played on the biggest stages for both his clubs and his country.

 

"He's been at Real Madrid and he's been at Chelsea, two of the top clubs in Europe and that tells you he must be a quality player.

 

"It's a great bit of business for us and he's very keen to be successful at Newcastle United, as we all are in the times ahead.

 

"Being able to add Geremi to Mark Viduka, Joey Barton and David Rozehnal has pleased me. In all cases, we've had competition for these players but all the hard work we have put into bringing them to Newcastle and selling the club has paid off."

 

Although he's yet to pull on a black and white shirt, the record books show Geremi has scored a goal for Newcastle United. It came on May 15, 2005 when he put through his own net as a Chelsea player in a 1-1 draw at St. James' Park.
