Fraser Forster

The Leeds game did the damage, which is a shame. But Harper could still hang around for 3-4 years (he'll hardly be knackered considering he spent years and years on the bench) so something had to give. The sensible option would involve a buy-back clause.

No way Harper has 3-4 years left in him

Can see him being backup this year and then calling it quits

Celtic have agreed a deal to bring Newcastle United goalkeeper Fraser Forster back to Parkhead on another loan arrangement.

Forster impressed during a loan spell in the SPL last season and Bhoys boss Neil Lennon has spent much of the summer trying to re-sign 23-year-old.

Newcastle had previously rejected a bid for the keeper, who was on the bench for the Magpies' opening Premier League game of the season against Arsenal last Saturday.

However, Forster now looks poised to rejoin the Bhoys on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move.

"A deal has been agreed," said Lennon ahead of Celtic's Europa League tie with Sion on Thursday.

"There are a few little snags to overcome but we hope to have him registered in time for tomorrow night."

Main target

Lennon continued: "If that is the eventuality of things, we would be absolutely delighted.

"He has been the main target since the end of last season.

"We did put a bid in but it was knocked back but we worked hard in the background to try to bring him in so I'm very, very pleased."

Lennon has searched far and wide this summer for a back-up to Lukasz Zaluska and Dominic Cervi and is considering putting Forster straight in against the Swiss side.

He said: "We will have to see his condition.

"The form of Lukasz has been very good so we will weigh these things up. But it has given myself and the squad a boost.

"We have three very good goalkeepers so there is great competition in that area which is what we wanted."

The bad news is out the way the fans and players want good news now and that will be players coming in not going out

Why loan him back to Celtic after what Pardew has said about the quality of the league?

Just shows that Pardew should keep his mouth shut when he's not pulling any of the strings.

Do you honestly think Llambias, Ashley, or anyone else has gone above his head and sent Foster to Celtic? Listen to yourself man.

Yes of course, my mistake. Pardew makes all the decisons on who's coming and going.  :idiot2:

Tbh i thought the lad had the potential to turn into a good keeper. Looking at his record of 88 appearances and 44 clean sheets is impressive, even if most of it was for Celtic and Norwich, obviously hes got ability and i think keepers have got the easiest job adapting to a higher level of football (Joe Hart, Foster.) Still only 23 and id probably play him over Harper and use him as competition with Krul, if he turned out poor loan him out

Lee Ryder says on Twitter that he was told by a "third party" that the deal was delayed (until now) because NUFC were trying to bring another keeper in.

Rob Green!
