Alan Oliver: 'top manager' contact claim?

The thread has taken a turn of comical genius. Thank you NE5, you've made my night.

So you think the major journo of the major newspaper in the city doesn't know how to contact the chairman of the football club, right ?

The naivety of people on this board never ceases to amaze me

"naivety" :lol:

Dave, take note to add the "most ironic post of the year" award for 2008's nominations.

"naive" ?

AO might indeed have Morts number, but there is absolutely no compelling reason I can see that a top manager (or his agent) would choose that route to contact the higher ups at Newcastle United.  You have to ask yourself, does an agent or agency representing someone generally do that?  Is that good business sense?  Is it good for privacy?

Agencies have contacts at clubs, at FA's, at manger boards etc, that they can all use before resorting to that.

If you have, or can think of, a compelling, rational reason why a top continental manager (or his agent) would even KNOW of Alan Oliver, much less contact him, please state it.

Haha, point out where I said that please. You're clearly on the wind-up tonight.

I never said he couldn't contact him. You just made that up in your head; it's called a straw-man argument.

you're backtracking. The major journo of the local rag is an obvious way of getting contact info of the football club chairman. This is what I said. As usual, its fools who think that because Oliver is an idiot that he wouldn't have this info. Of course he would. He is bound to have it, the same as most or all of the players and officials at the club. You must be pretty stupid if you don't understand that the press aren't the most obvious and common method of getting information like this.

How the fuck am I backtracking?

If any manager wanted to get in touch with the clubs chairman, who better than the leading journo of the local rag ?

Sorry, but... mackems.gif

how do you think football works Dave ? Do you think he looks in the phone book ?

No one looks in the phone book old man

oh dear. Such abuse from a little lad.

Never mind. One day you will learn.

BTW, I'm the same age as Allardyce, Roeder, and younger than Kevin Keegan, who certainly knew what he was on about.

mackems.gif

By the way, they aren't the same age so thats an impressive trick.

Never mind. One day you will learn.

how do you know, are you telling me how old I am  mackems.gif

Can you not read?

Allardyce and Roeder are not the same age as each other, so you can't be the same age as both of them. O0

You're pissed aren't you ?

I mean, if one of them is 52, and one is 53, you must be pissed, or stupid, to be so pedantic.

;D

Unless one of them turns from 53==>54 before the younger one reaches 53 from 52 O0

To agree with Dave...

The thread has taken a turn of comical genius. Thank you NE5, you've made my night.

Clutching at straws .........

Unless its a fact O0

Look up the word "pedantic" in a dictionary lad.  bluelaugh.gif

The press is the single most informative method of getting this sort of info. This is how it works. Do you seriously think that such info would be gained elsewhere, so easily and accurately, if so please tell us

I understand people like you don't like AO ............ [not saying I do but I don't know him and in any case I'm only spelling out the reality]. Having said that, reality doesn't sit well does it, especially when it conflicts with people's "opinions"

Fuck me, this is getting silly.

Try responding to thomas' post above if you've had enough of me. He's put my argument much more eloquently.

Any old person could ring Oliver and try get Mort's number. If you seriously believe a 'top agent' with a supposedly world class manager to offer to Mort would also go down such a basic route I'm worried.

This thread is brilliant.

I didn't think anybody would top the stupidity of Oliver but they have.

I've just spent 20 seconds looking for and finding the club fax number, the phone number for the main switchboard and an e-mail form.  I didn't even have to spend that much time working out the actual e-mail address of people at the club, anybody who has sent more than a couple of e-mails to people could work that one out yet we are to believe that a top agents first attempt was to contact Oliver.  bluelaugh.gif  bluelaugh.gif  bluelaugh.gif

Didn't know where to put this little piece of ITK mis-information.. this seemed the best place.

I work in a casino in Derby and tonight we've had quite a few Geordies in the place, since Stoke is fairly close. I was chatting over a busy roulette table about this story and he told me that apparently the NUFC board have been talking with Alan Shearer about taking over as manager.. and Shearer agreed to the idea.

..I want to add now that I have no idea if this would be mid-season, in theory or at the end etc. He said that his source was the club doctor, a close friend of his. He also said something about a signing taking place, but I could only get bits and bats since I was working at the time.

Probably nothing.. but if true.. Hm.

Wow a Geordie at a roulette table near newcastle talking about Shearer becoming manager.

Lock it in. Nailed on.

Dave

I dont know why you bother answering this attention seeking numbnut.

Has there ever been a thread on this site where he has posted that hasnt developed into an argument?

For what it is worth, history has shown numerous times that Oliver dreams up stories just to sell newspapers. That is how they operate by relating headlines to the masses that could be determined at the time as sensationalism but ultimately, fizzle out to nonsense.......................just like the majority of crap that comes from Leazes (NE5) or whatever he calls himself.

If you wanted to contact the chairman of a club there are ways of finding the right details via footballing channels. For example there is a communication system that all clubs have access to, so they can communicate with one another, agents, the FA, the LMA, the PFA, UEFA, FIFA, other leagues and so on. All an agent would have to do is access that system. AO is talking shite.

Lets take a step back from this a second.

It is very doubtful a top agent would need Oliver to tell him Mort's number, as there are probably a few sources from which he could have obtained this number.

However, those laughing at NE5 have made equally laughable comments that an agent could acquire the number by phoning the press office. There are thousands of agents and representatives out there, and Mort's number isn't going to be handed over by an NUFC employee based on a claim made over the phone.

It is difficult to say how much networking Mort has done, but the board must have lost hundreds of contacts when Shepherd, the Halls, and Cushing left, and much of the clubs work done on the agent side of things has probably been done through Allardyce.

That means that not only does Mort not have access to many agents around the world, many agents may not currently have access to Mort, and the Newcastle chairman's phone number is probably in the top 20 of best footballing contacts an agent can possess, and is ulikely to be bandied about by everyone, as having this number brings a competitive advantage over those who don't.

A low key, not very good agent could be trying to tout someone (player or manager) to the club, and given that this shitty agent doesn't have many contacts, Oliver may have been the best route to access to Mort.

Furthermore, everyone seems to be talking as if agents are nice, discrete and unsinister. If they are trying to tout a manager to a club that currently have a manager in employment, it is nasty and sinister, and given that many NUFC fans backing Allardyce state a main reason being that there is no better replacement out there, discretion, while touting this manager may not be the best policy.

I know people who have worked in Thompson House & agents do ring Oliver for information on the current status at Newcastle, give him names of there clients that are "in talks" or "being watched" by Newcastle. Most of it turns out to be agent bullshit that never comes off.

Oliver will have have Morts number.

On this story however I think someone working on behalf of an unemployed manager or a manger wanting to earn mega bucks is touting his client & the "need a phone number" was just a line. The agency were more than likely hoping the name would be printed & fans would see the name & get behind this unknown manager.  The Chronicle/Icnewcastle is still the staple diet for most Newcastle fans.

Somewhere else in this thread someone said Oliver rips off the offical website!!! ERRRRRRRRRRRRRR all the press bods are at the same press conferences & get the same press releases as well. Of couse he will use quotes off the video footage from Chris Hope's interviews.

Some people need to get a grip here and think about what they are posting.

If, for arguments sake I was Mourinho's agent and wanted to contact Chris Mort I'd ring the switchboard and tell whoever answered who I was and who I wanted to speak to.  1 of 2 things would happen, whoever answered the switchboard would either ring through to Chris Mort and tell him who I was and why I wanted to speak to him or would ask me for my number and would pass that on.  Some lass answering a phone will not be making decisions about who does and who doesn't speak to the chairman, she'd lose her job if she was contacted by Mourinho's agent and failed to pass the message on.

As for the "nasty" agent, he must also be as thick as shit because he forgot to mention to Oliver who he was representing, in doing so he's failed to do what he's supposed to have wanted to do, his clients name is still unknown so nobody is shouting for him to be taken on as manager.
