We only offered him the contract, what, about a week ago? Give him time to mull it over, can't just expect an instant decision.

You think a week is an instant decision? Its simple really, does he want to stay or not. Pretty easy really.

A week is nothing. Not sure why people expect these things to go through this quickly. It's the same with some of our transfer targets, people saying 'move on' if we haven't signed someone within a couple of weeks of being linked to them.

EDIT: Very naive if you believe it's 'pretty easy'.

Its a decision over 6 months or more, even more naive to think its only dawned on him the past 7 days.

He might have had his mind up to leave for most of that 6 months and now the contract offer and our apparent transfer targets/aims for the coming seasons have put the cat amongst the pigeons. Wishful thinking I know, but if that's the case then he certainly wouldn't want to make a snap decision.

Yeah thats a possiblility, obviously we would all like it to happen as well but am not too hopeful.

I get that he may want to wait and see who we sign, good news is that he has had a contract offer and looks as if its for good money.. main issue is how long he wants to wait before making his mind up, he cannot say with 2 weeks to go that he does want to leave, there MUST be a time limit on the offer or we have no choice but to look to sell.

Perhaps he's still waiting to see if we're actually going to sign these good players we've been linked to before declaring his intentions.

His previous comments about the people in charge 'not doing what they promised' would seemingly make your post correct

I think those comments were more to do with the vision he was sold when he originally signed.

Exactly the same situation applies now

Blame Football Manager's transfer/contract module, which is pretty much based on a 1 week turn around! I'd say that's the vast majority of most people's experience.

Aye thats it exactly, nothing to do with him having 6 months to think about it before the offer like, lets blame if on FM ffs

How can he decide on something he was offered maybe a week ago, six months ago? He may not have been sure what he wanted to do, decided to see what was put on the table and then go from there. Like Dave said, there's also other factors like waiting to see who we sign too.

Dont be stupid, he has had 6 months to decide if he wants to be here long term. The contract is apparently(yeah i know) a very good one so its either good enough to stay or it isnt. Of course there could be other factors but he will have a pretty clear idea of what he wants already before now.

You've just said yourself that the contract could have been a very good one which could have changed his mind but that still doesn't mean he'll give a quick response. It's hardly rocket science.

I know most footballers think the world revolves around them but it's not all about him. He must realise the club need, if not an answer, at least some indication of his intentions. We do, after all, need to plan for life after him.

The point being he will know what he wants beforehand so the contract will just confirm what he is going to do. I doubt it will change his mind as we wont be offering groundbreaking money or owt. Didnt think it needed to be explained but never mind.

He should piss off pronto. Don't want this saga dragging on all summer, just sell him and focus on getting in a replacement.

It might have changed his mind, though. Nobody knows that. We also don't know what he's been told alongside the contract offer which could also influence his decision which could be what the deal hinges on. You still seem to think it's as easy as giving a yes or no answer when it's a lot more complex than that.

I'm sure we could give him some sort of clause similar to what we've supposedly offered Nolan, but whereby if he signs a long-term deal and we don't finish 7th or higher or whatever, he can leave for a fixed price.

That's what I was thinking the other day.

A yes or no answer based on 6 months of thinking, a simple fact you want to ingore. You can pretend otherwise but imo he knows what he wants on way or the other.

Pretty sure Jose knows if he wants to stay or not, and what terms would possibly coax him into staying etc. Signing a multi million pound contract obviosly isn't as straight forward as it seems, but if it's in the back of his mind that he wants out, he'll more than likely be gone.
