Old thread about a potential Icelandic takeover bid years ago

Recommended Posts

Even if a bid IS imminent (and not wanting to impugn the reputation of the fine Icelandic press corps, let's assume it is) what makes anyone think Ashley's going to sell? Didn't we already get a quick bid from some Chinese group earlier this month that he turned down? Patience, and let's just see what happens, eh?

they are quite rich...

Richer than Ashley?

Don't have to be. Just rich enough to offer a price that would induce him to sell.

Ashley at 488, the only Icelander above him on the list is Björgólfur Thor with 3.5bln.

Jón Ásgeir isn't on the list meaning net worth less than 1bln.

On 17 August 2005, he was charged by a court in Reykjavík with 40 counts of breaking the Icelandic penal code, Accounting Act, Annual Accounts Act and Companies Act. Most of them are related to transactions between him and Baugur. The Supreme court sent most of the charges back to the Reykjavik district court in the fall of 2005 on the base of technicalities. In February 2007, the case was still underway.
