Anthony Elanga: NUFC have bid of £45m rejected (Ornstein)
Bunk Moreland replied to SUPERTOON's topic in Football
Definitely seems like we're putting those other options out there with an ulterior motive. Bakayoko is more of a project than a hit-the-ground-running signing, Kudus is likely to cost as much as Elanga and Adeyemi apparently doesn't do the kind of off the ball work Eddie would demand (although does seem an exciting player creatively tbf) -
They really did not want to lose Elanga.
-
Seems that way 👍🏻 Out of interest between the 4 who would you all want? 1.AE 2.JB 3.KA 4.MK
-
Yeah, i know what you mean. I also don't believe we are stuck in a "how to breakdown a lowblock" mess too often in a season, and generally when we are stuck in that, it's becuase our main style of play hasn't been effective. If Elanga ends up being 15-29% better than Murphy over the course of a season then you'd assume we're being better at what we normally do best.
-
Makes me think if Elanga really was a player we liked, we should have done more with the Anderson bait last year. We did need the 35m of course but we could have even over paid after July, the Vlach+Guehi money. So Forest offer 35m and have a gentleman's a agreement that we would offer 60m for Elanga. Both of us would have overpaid but it's all acceptable. Better than the 20m wasted on Oddy

They're also not in a position where they probably only have around £100-120m needed to strengthen 3 key positions just to stand still as a top 5 team tbf. The Mbeumos take too much out of the budget, another Minteh-esque signing is too much of a gamble and not what we need at this time. The likes of Elanga & Trafford are pretty much in the sweet spot of what we can afford and would improve our starting XI and also have the potential to be those £60-70m players we can't yet afford. Also need some money for a top CB as well as padding out the squad. -

Similar player to Elanga to be fair. -
Adeyemi you say? I'm listening, Keith.

The classic put pressure on the player's camp. -
The Murphy comparisons are difficult to understand. At the same age, Murphy could barely hit a shot on target never mind have consecutive seasons of 14 and 17 Premier League goal involvements, in a team most people would only regard as being fairly average from an attacking perspective. You'd think Almiron and Longstaff would have shown us a thing or two about purple patches and players eventually reverting to factory settings.

It's just the state of the modern game that £45 million is a fair price for him even though it seems insanely high. It's on the table, they know it and he knows it. We should now move on to other targets which may in turn cause them to reconsider the offer. -
I agree. How much did they pay for him? And how much did we pay for Gordon and Barnes? How much did Spurs pay for Johnson? All around that ball park for a player they bought for very little iirc.
-
I like Elanga a lot and like him in our system but there’s still some questions over how far he can go. £45m seems like a good fee for him. I don’t think he’s worth north of £50-£55m. I think we should move on if Forest are adamant they aren’t gonna sell. Last thing we need is a Guehi style drawn out process.
-
I wonder if the bid had been accepted if it would have been included on the June side of the PSR window ?
-
He's been in great form last two seasons in the main for Forest. A real handful in transition with a good # of goals and assists. At 23, probably levels to his execution and decision making to fine-tune under Eddie's tutelage. Positionally versatile, and if he can get to an even better level than last season, would be very well loved in a black and white shirt. These sums always seem like big #'s when you compare to other players and positions but I trust the club to get the transfers right, they seemingly have nailed nearly every single one.
-
It won’t be close to 45m.
-
He is perfect for them, no doubt. I think he’d do well here too, just not the type of player I think we need to improve a lot, especially in the areas we are relatively poor in at times. Especially for the price it would take.
-
45 million for essentially a hyperMurphy sounds reasonable to me tbh.
-
On the positive, they've managed to shake Mitchell's trousers in order to get the ink for the fax machine. Certainly feels as though we are ready to make moves.
-
If he stays, its an absolute certainty that he gets a pay rise, which could well be what this is all about.
-
@McCormick my Forest supporting mate is praying they don't sell Elanga. Absolutely loves him.
-
Aye if it's only £45m (no add ons etc), there's no chance. Can only imagine we're trying to unsettle him, but there's no way they're letting him go at that price. It's a borderline insulting offer for a young, capped, established Premier League winger these days to be honest.
-
Just felt like it lasted the entire window.
-
They don’t happen anymore it seems. He wants to come I reckon but won’t kick up a fuss
