  1. Is Mort a better chairman than Shepherd because he's spent more cash this year then Shepherd spent last year? has he ? Remind us how much we got for Dyer and Parker again ? Interesting you are now considering this criteria, having in the past insinuated it was completely irrelevant. mackems.gif Anyway, I thought you said it is our money and not theirs mackems.gif NE5, to be honest, regardless of whether i agree or disagree with your points, i think its only fair that someone points out to you that following everything you say with one of those laughing emoticons only serves to make you appear extremely patronising and smarmy, it's no way to conduct a discussion if you want any respect I take your point, but I only do it when posts don't make sense, and MICK usually isn't a person who applies consistent logic The question in bold has nothing to do with my logic, it's about yours and you clearly don't want to answer it so I'll leave it as the silence is answer enough. Simple fact is, and simple is the operative word here, is its simply too early to say. See what they do next year, and the year after, and the year after. Lets see if they are prepared to really go for it if we get into a challenging position, and break a transfer record or two, or set a new one or two for ourselves. Pretty basic, really. As I said. Simple. Shouldn't really need explaining. If Allardyces doesn't succeed, who will you blame by the way, I don't recall you answering that when I asked you on numerous occasions ? The big money trophy signings were one of FFS's biggest failings so there's no need for the current management to "break a transfer record or two" .
  2. They did canny today like! And I value MON's opinion over yours anyday!!!
  3. Smith's problem is that he's become the dreaded "utility" player, ready, willing and able to do a job for his team wherever the manager requires him. I can't think of any such players that get the credit they deserve for doing a job for the team, and it's typical that Smith is seen as the weakest link despite being part of our excellent start to the season. Regarding his best position, I think we would see the best of him up front if Viduka got injured in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.

    Steve Harper

Aren't we lucky to have 2 such good keepers that we can actually debate who should have the shirt!? For me Harps has done nothing wrong this season, in fact he's made a couple of superb saves, and should keep the shirt if Sam wants to send out the right signals to the rest of the squad that reputations don't matter, it's performances that count.
  5. I think a suitable response would be to point out the fact that if we have had blundering twats running the club, what does it say about the 87 clubs who have not qualified for europe as often as we did. I also think it says a lot about the intellect of supporters - if you can call them supporters as you clearly have zero perspective and as such are clearly one of those people who jumped on the Keegan/Hall/Sheperd/Fletcher bandwagon because you are whining on that we didn't win any of the trophies that you expected to win when the board you slate attracted you back to the club if you ever attended in the first place - that they seriously think that such qualifications for europe, added to the fact that we have qualified for europe more than every club in the country bar 4, is disputed by someone who clearly thinks that NUFC have always finished in the top 3 of the country and the Halls and Sheperd are to blame for bringing all those tropyhy laden glory days to an end Well I think thats a bit unfair NE5. Apart from anything else, I'd say 83-85 of those clubs didn't have the resources, playing staff and support base that we had when Sheperd was installed as chairman. And to question the intellect and loyalty of people who just hapen to have higher expectations for the club than you... I for example am 25; therefore the time when I was starting to devote all my free time to playing football was 89-90ish onwards, just like every other kid my age. Then getting properly into nufc shortly after, obviously being happy as larry when Keegan saved us and then getting totally addicted during 92-93. It is not the fault of people like me if our most impressionable years coincided with the Keegan era is it? I'm sure most of us aren't ignorant to the barren years that the club has experiencd over most of its history, and respect people like you who have stuck with the club during those times, but equally we are perfectly entitled to be disappointed by the decline post 97, much of which Sheperd must take the blame for. We are disappointed because our personal experience of nufc had led us to believe better thing were in store. Robson saved us again and gave us some great seasons but the sad fact is that no growth or develpment occured in this time, if we look back at it now. its true that the ground was developped fairly extensively but as a club we have been directionless for a long time, loping from one quick fix to the next, and Sheperd has to take the blame. Life is full of disappointments but there is nothing wrong in assessing what or who is to blame for those disappointments. Very good post that no one can argue with....... .......I think.
  6. aye, a bit odd to say the least, but top news if he really does fall in love with the club, and the city. Over the years, I've brought a canny few people to Newcastle for matches, weekends, nights out etc and everybody never failed to have a good time and like the city Makes you feel really good tbh when this happens Even when your chewing their ears off telling them what a great chairman FFS is/was. :giggle: not really Jim, most of those times we had a shit team, which was embarrassing, but they had a good time in the city, a good weekend, and sometimes their teams won. Because we had a shit team like Aye, been there, done that.
  7. Yes. aye, a bit odd to say the least, but top news if he really does fall in love with the club, and the city. Or a retard. I don't need to guess, I know you're a tosser!!!

  9. Shepherd was a PR nightmare! Just compare him to the new regime who are generating nothing but positive vibes. Good riddance, now let's move on.
  10. Great Stuff! He looks and acts like one of the lads. Can only be good for the club, and if he gets really passionate and seriously opens the purse strings well, the world could be our lobster.
  11. That's the short term view. Taylor has the potential to be better than either of those, and he can only get better by playing alongside experienced centre backs. I'll leave it to Sam to decide who partners Taylor as I'm happy with either, but Taylor must play providing he maintains an acceptable level of form and I haven't seen him drop below that level as yet. Rotating the central defensive pairing is a recipe for disaster in my view as it hinders building the trust and communication needed to play effectively in that position. Didn't do Chelsea or Terry any harm when they kept Desailly & Leboeuf/Gallas together for a few seasons when Terry was the age Taylor is now did it? Jimmy like us to to "support the team" (unless he doesn't like the player and then it's ok to boo them). Geordie goggles and not too much thought really. Can you find a post from me where I advocate booing one of our players??? I think not "boy"! Go back to playing your Premier Manager computer games.
  12. There doesn't appear to be much service to the front men, one of the reasons why so many are screaming on these boards for a playmaker. I don't necesarily agree with that, but I don't think going forward we have linked very well this season. Alan Smith isn't ever going to be playing silky football, but if he gives us some steel and aggreszsion in place that's some compensation. But you would want a few goals as well, and I'm surprised, given that he's by nature a striker, he hasn't had more efforts. Like I said earlier, if we have Geremi and Butt providing defensive cover, Smith should have a bit of license to get in the opposition penalty area. I agree with all of that as I posted virtually the same recently, but, like I said, he's doing a job for Sam as part of a very defensive midfield. Sam has obviously set his stall out to make us very hard to beat and it seems to be working. Again, following last nights win, he mentioned how important the clean sheet was to him and the team. Sam's philosophy is to play the percentages which means that if we don't concede then, with the quality we've got up top, we should win more than we lose and I don't think anyone can argue with that. I'm looking forward to singing 1-0 to the Geordies on a regular basis.

  14. He's doing what he's told to do by the manager. What's the problem?!
  15. Decent Premiership club (prone to shooting itself in the foot) has a decent Premiership player (prone to dropping the odd clanger). Ceteris paribus. Personally I'd rather get away from that Jimmy and demand better. Much as I am derided for pointing out the failings of our young players, well it's just that they arent very good. Not bad, just not going to take us very far. We need better if we intend to end the current state of mediocrity, particularly when other teams of similar size are investing so heavily in (or already have) better. Decent squad players. That's what they should be. If those two are in the first team next year then we can conclude the manager and owner have very little ambition. He's widely viewed as one of the most promising young English centre backs. Pearce and Maclaren both rate him highly and expect him to progress and challenge for the full England side in time. As I said previously, if he's not good enough for us we are in trouble. Do we go down the Marcellino and Bramble route or do we nurture and support one our own? There is only one option for true supporters of NUFC. The last bit made me giggle. Believe me, if we had Terry, Woodgate, Ferdinand and Carragher here then I would quite happily sell him. That would be the only option to the true supporter of NUFC surely? That's exactly the type of attitude that does my box in. We can all pick the dream team we'd like to see in black and white shirts and too many people compare theirs with what we've got and are inevitably disappointed. It's a post Sky syndrome and probably got something to do with those poxy Premiership manager games a lot of you like to play. Lots of assumptions there Jimmy. Mostly inaccurate. Pretty lame way to get your point across too. So let me get this right. You would prefer a worse footballer provided he came through the academy? You're a strange boy. Let me ask you this, if we had those 4 would you still want Taylor in the side? If not, why not? You need a reality check "boy"! We don't have, and never will have, the players you mentioned. Like I said stop playing Premiership Manager and start supporting the team we do have. This includes forgiving the odd mistake from young, home grown talent who are still learning their trade. So you have come to the conclusion that you were indeed talking nonsense then Jimmy? It's not the only course of action? Just pointing out the problem with that sort of comment. Of course we forgive the odd mistake. It's not unconditional love though, is it? He's ok. As I mentioned earlier. Nb: What the fuck is Premiership Manager? Does supporting the team include booing players who may well have turned out for us pre-season? No, I haven't come to that conclusion and I'm rather bored with your condescending attitude. IMO Taylor should always play with one of the other experienced centre backs we've recently bought. He is learning, he is progressing and I still think he will be a great player for NUFC. I'll ignore your last "point" as it doesn't have any relevence to this thread.

  19. I'm looking forward to watching him and hope he can build a good understanding down the left with Zoggy. Zoggy's spell at left back should have given him an appreciation of that position, and that he must work harder than in the past on the defensive side of his game even if he is an attack minded midfielder. If it works out as planned they should be an exciting pairing.
  20. Anyone know why the transfer hasn't been confirmed by us yet?
  21. Dyer having a go at Pattinson for making a bad pass doesn't strike me as a very good example of him being only in it for the money. Dire's whole career at NUFC is proof enough that he was only here for the money but that's not the point I was making. Dire and his like weren't/aren't interested in fostering good team spirit, nurturing young talent and trying to be a "model" pro others would look up to which would, ultimately, benefit the club. In fact Dire was the exact opposite.

    Team Spirit.

Interested to read the following points Taylor made in The Journal this morning:- “We’ve got players here now who really want to play for this club, it's not all about the money,” he said, his criticism thinly-veiled. “In the recent past, people have said that the players were paid too much, but the players now are just concerned about working hard for each other. “There were lads who got stick at the training ground last season and it was difficult experience when we were out there training. We didn’t get the performances we would have expected from top-quality players, but they’ve gone and I hope we can start a new era where we all play for each other.” I wonder who he's referring to about players getting stick on the training ground. I read somewhere that Barton gave Dire stick for having a go at Pattinson after he made a poor pass in training, perhaps Dire didn't want to get on the wrong side of Barton so that may have hastened his departure. Team spirit is a huge part of a successful football club and I'm glad to hear that it's improving at NUFC.
  23. We really are in trouble if some "supporters" believe that Taylor isn't good enough for us!
