It doesn't seem right in football for any shirt to be retired. Whereas in NBA it does to me.
Must be because in basketball any number can be worn at any position so they are more closely attached to the player himself. In football there is still a positional relevance to the numbers for 1 to 11 so it makes me think the shirt should be in service of the team not the individual.
If we had a number 9 scoring 50 goals and winning us the league, still wouldn't want it retired. It's better to have a passing of the torch.
[emoji38] dunno why I found this so funny like. Caught me completely by surprise.
EDIT: Seems to actually be a common Italian name for them:

That's simply because the city of Munich is called "Monaco" in the Italian language. Which doesn't do much for confusion, especially in the context of football.
At least it means Bayern remains the exception by having the city name declined in local language.

Bloody Graeme Carr.
Now I just feel bad.
It's completely moot, really. Had we signed him then he would have been so Pardewed that by now he'd be back in Ligue 2 in France. Maybe lower.
Whilst Saivet or someone would be at Chelsea
Clearly needs to dive a bit more.
Ref needs to be fairer. Refused to book Meunier in the first half and then was trying to not give the pen to Neymar which was as clear as it gets.
If he was less of a clown he'd get more of the decisions.
