At some point in time they're going to have to realise and accept that this type of signing is going to become the norm. You can argue about the rights and wrongs of the Saudis and their motives as long as you like, its a different thread, but they've not bought a PL team to mess about with. It's not a plaything a random American billionaire has bought to have a bit of fun with, these people mean serious business and they will throw a huge amount of cash at it to make it a success by their own criteria. They're perfectly entitled to take the piss or whatever but they ultimately know that, as far as regional competition is concerned, they're dead in the water. I'm quite happy to leave them exactly where they are, laugh occasionally at their misfortune and let them get on with it. We're effectively orbiting different suns now.

He's an excellent player and brings a huge amount on and off the park but it's also a signal to other targets that we're intent on moving forward rapidly. Other players will be taking notice and this signing could potentially sway a few wavering players into saying 'yes' rather than 'not yet'. We're not there yet but another 3 or 4 more like Trippier and I'd be very very confident of staying up and attracting even better players in the summer. 10/10 transfer and I couldn't give a fuck what he cost or what we're paying him either.

Totally agree but I think the huge void in the middle of the park is the biggest issue right now imo. The obvious solution is to stick Pogba (or v.d Beek) in there rather than dross like Fred or Matic. Not sure where Pogba fits into this 4-2-2-2 though. They need to make some big decisions about the composition of that squad though.

You'd think that Everton will need to balance the books and that means any serious offer for Digne would surely be considered. It also suggests that £40m spent on Rafa's players means he's not going anywhere in the short term. What grounds are they using to refuse permission to leave and play? Are they allowed to just block it and say no? Surely not.

Peak Ramsey is well in the distance from everything I've seen and read. He used to be very very good, as good as any CM we've had for decades at his peak tbh. I've just not seen enough of that recently enough to justify signing him. Put whatever his wage would have been into signing someone who's still hungry and wanting to perform. Just feels like dead money spending it on him right now.

Got to bear in mind that £30m is the cost of a good/decent PL player these days, it's not an excessive amount of money for most established PL clubs. The fact we consider it outrageous says more about how we've been run recently than the quality we're now looking at. We're now simply paying the going rate for players to improve us, the worrying thing is the number of players like this we actually need...
