That's right it was the Mamic brothers who chose Spurs for him.
-
By all accounts the Modric bid was genuine wasn't it? Modric came over with his agents and even met Keegan iirc.
-
Decent player at his peak, but his legs are going/have gone. Would be better than Butt and give us another body I suppose... I'd pay £2m max for him.
-
Maybe, but everyone knows you're a '1' anyway.
-
Thats basically the up and down of it. If a new big spender comes into the market, you may aswell take advantage of it. Take that tab out yer gob man

The club comes first. Always has, always will. Players, managers & owners have all come and gone and I've stuck by them throughout. I've had a mixed bag so far but I'll always be a Newcastle fan. There isn't an alternative.

I really, really hope Kinnear, Ashley and Wise know what they're up to. I really do. There's nothing we can do except hope they've got a plan and have players lined up. I've got my own doubts about certain things but I'll see where we are come Feb 2nd.

Can't remember being this apathetic towards a 3rd round in yonks. It's supposed to be one of the best footballing weekends of the season and I honestly couldn't give a shit.
-
Enrique gets my vote for that award.

Never realised that £12m was their offer for Bridge. I reckon any other club would have got him for about £6m. I'd ask City for about £18m in that case. Seriously. Every player has his price and if they're throwing stupid money around...
-
It's a fair question. He's aware of the shitstorm the remarks have made and he's said nothing to confirm or deny them. He needs to come out and either stand by the club or formally ask for a transfer imo.
-
Spotted that He actually looks pretty pleased as well He's just seen Butt smash one past Harper from 65 yards.
-
If they offer £10m, they'd be prepared to go to at least £13m. I'd rather keep him but if he genuinely wants away then all we can do is hike the price up.
-
Can you believe it?

Given is the better of the 2 keepers though. Given knows it, Kinnear knows it and, most importantly, Harper knows it. With Krul being at Carlisle it's a straight choice between the 2 of them and he's chosen Given. And he's still getting shit for it! You'll be the first to cry if Harper doesn't sign a new contract! Gotcha.

I'd give him the whole of the second half tomorrow.

The Newcastle United Transfer Thread: D-Day [Spoiler: Not Much Happens]

Or the owner actually took some responsibility and sought to quickly end supporter tension by appointing a capable manager to replace KK, rather than playing the victim card and throwing his toys out of the pram and pushing us further into turmoil. Regarding your question, another Joe Kinnear would have been found or maybe Ashley would have been forced to take responsibility and appoint a capable manager to fully replace KK. Why should I be grateful an unemployed manager accepted a well paying job offer. Who? Who would have taken the job? Who should Ashley have contacted first? Are you genuinely interested in my opinion or do you expect me to answer that as if I should know? I'd be interested to see who you think Ashley should have realistically gone for and stood a chance of getting. Does it matter? Could he have taken a different approach or not to the one he did? Was it either Kinnear or no-one or as you're implying, Kinnear or Hughton and therefore lets all be grateful to good 'ol Joe because we'd be dead and burried by now with Hughton still at the helm which was the only other alternative? So you can't give me any names then? On second thoughts, you're right it doesn't fucking matter. Forget it. -

Indeed he is. He's on fuck all apparently compared to even the second lowest paid manager in the league. What is he on a hiding to nothing. -

I often wonder where we'd be if he'd turned the job down and Hughton had still been in charge of the first team. -
Thing is, whatever you think of Given, he loves the club, and if he feels the need to speak out, he's letting the fans know that there is something wrong. The current board has a reputation for getting its defence in before the event, ie Milner, or Owen's contract, so by doing it this way, he's making it clear who he thinks are in the wrong on all this. Throwing an official transfer request sends out that exact same message. As I've said - if he's unhappy at the club, hoy a request to leave in. Don't be snidey about it and link yourself to other clubs in public. Don't blame him for going but do it properly.
-
Agree with madras when he asks why he didn't put a transfer request in if he's unhappy? That's the right way to go about things surely? Doing it like this is underhand when I think about it. I don't blame him in the slightest for being pissed off and wanting away but at least do things the way they should be done eh?
-
Maybe this has been in the pipeline for a while and we've been bidding for players based on Given's cash paying for them?
