Maldini is an absolute legend of the modern game. He's been at the top of European football for nearly a quarter of a century. Can't think of another player who comes remotely close to him. Defines the term 'world class'. It's bandied about regarding fucking dross like Ledley King et al but Maldini is the real deal.

If there are 8 cynical fouls before half time there should really be 8 yellows (reds if serious). A lenient ref is a good ref in a Cup final imo. As long as he's impartial, I can't see the harm in letting a few things go - keeping 22 players on the park for the full 90.
