If Ashley can't sell the club/decides to keep it......
madras replied to ianovthetoon's topic in Football
is there still a blue star to take over ? they were in deep doodoo last i heard and were trying to cut a deal with the FA to stay afloat. -
we've had swansea last game of the season at SJP before and i was there (david giles the little bastard)
-
i'll go with some of that. not sure about guthrie but he may be what we need in the championship.
-
yeah. the west brom who totally dominated us in the second half. wank tactics ?.. do you think that was actually a plan or a seasoned pro trying to take some reponsibility as no fucker else would ?
-
i wish those players had of proved it last season. the "of" was just for you dave Well to be fair, Guthrie did.. and Barton and Smith weren't around enough. if guthrie had, why did butt spend his games alongside him trying to get forward now and again.....whilst his younger more fit team mate kept out the way ?

Maybe the notion that if someone else had already brought out a chain of low-cost branded sports goods where profits were made on non-branded products with high margins, then Ashley would be a commoner like many of us. I appreciate the same arguement could be made for anyone who's earnt a fortune from being smart enough to do what noone else has done, but with Ashley showing his sheer and utter incompetence in running a football club I'd say the "luck" element applies moreso with him in comparison to someone like e.g. Bill Gates, who I could still see being a multi-millionaire through some other venture had someone else been the first to bring out an end-user orientated operating system where the licence was for each PC. oh thats how it works. all these billionaires etc have never made losses or stepped outside their speciality and f***ed up. Never said they haven't, nor have I implied anywhere that billionaires can't be good businessmen whilst still making susbstantial losses in alternative ventures. The point here is that it's quite possible that Ashley isn't good at business in general, but that he may be where he is because he stumbled upon something that noone else was doing within the sports retail market. It's also possible that Ashley is indeed a smart businessman and made his billion by being sharp/shrewd. I'm not saying he's either, just that I can see why some people might consider him to be "lucky". my own personal thoughts are that he is a clever businessman (not just a retailer) and he came into this (NUFC) not as a business venture 1100% but for the fun. didn't do his homework and found out it would cost him a lot more than he thought.

maybe age but i'd go the first season up....total football, surprising everyone, with the majority of the team that came up .

I know I said this already today, but for my money this is the most cunty thing Ashley has done. Basically, it equates to "I don't care whether they can fund the club, I don't care what their motives are, I don't care where their money comes from, I just want 100m" What an utter, utter c***, just for that alone, leaving aside all the other stuff. I wonder how he managed to become such a successful businessman, given that he shows not even the slightest hint of understanding how people think, and how to do things the right way. So now, he's simulataneously pimping the club to anyone - ANYONE - with 100m to invest, whilst saying how keen he is to bail out, whilst trying to convince Shearer to become manager (although nobody knows who potential new owners will want) and whilst sticking most of the squad on the books of some shonky agency with the instruction "get rid, quick" - not a thought to what the manager will want to do. I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but honest to god, I couldn't imagine a more inept, insensitive, short termist "leader" if I tried. Totally with you and glad you can see that from an 'outside' POV as it were. But the bit in bold: he didn't make loads of money by understanding consumer behaviour in a sophisticated manner. He basically bought as much s**** as he could for as cheap as he could, and then sold it for cheaper than his competitors. Granted he bought and reinvigorated a few failing brands but the same principle applies. 'Everyone likes a bargain' appears to be the only Unique Selling Point of his outlets and I'm guessing he's the same - £134m probably seemed like a bargain before he realised what he'd got himself in for. NUFC was a complete ego-fuelled, mid-life crisis purchase but it's not some wife in a radge with a Porsche on the drive, it's us left picking up the f***ing pieces. not forgetting the nice big profits he's made when buying into some companies (eg adidas) and selling later.

not even at the match or watching it.......... the 1-1 at old trafford first season up. had split with the live in girlfriend of 7 years the night before, had a ticket but gave it away so i could clear my stuff out. i was walking to my parents house with the match on the walkman. we scored and i gave out an involuntary fist and "get in"...looked around and 100yds or so along the street was a bloke washing his car, throwing his sponge in the air uumping up and down and shouting "get the fuck in there" waited for the wife to come in,didn;t come in till just after 3. "right i'm off out to listen to the match" i was meeting a mate in the local aswell. whilse walking along we got a pen. solano scored, a car went by with one person in it....they were giving it both fists as they were driving. he caught my eye and we both gave a fist of celebration. sunderland 0 newcastle 1 (solano pen). these type of moments stick with me.

good for the soul of football though In what way does a monopoly provider and majority funder of football clubs improve things? it's another sign of the money madness coming to a close. And it doesn't matter if it takes a load of clubs with it? if it does it could well be argued it was going to happen anyway, take a look around. Gibberish. If the banks had lent it money, it would have survived to fight another day and make the adjustments needed. The demand to watch will always be there. the demand to watch may always be there but not at the prices it was reaching...hence why setanta couldn't pick up the ammount of subscribers necessary to avoid going tits up. -
