  1. I'd be prepared to take the gamble myself despite accepting that things could go bad and things are not always so simplistic. FS has put none of his own personal wealth into the club so can afford to be wreckless and he's also in a position where he answers to no-one so the burden of responsibility doesn't weigh so heavily on his mind, where as someone buying the club for over 100m is hardly likely to piss about or mess things up. In fact I'd say the opposite is far more likely, i.e. wanting to make the most of that investment and we all know for NUFC to make money it has to be successful. As far as I'm concerned there is no hope under FS and the current board and unless they grow some new brains this is as good as it gets under them, mid-table mediocrity which has been our average finish under them in terms of final league table placings. We need some fresh, independent ideas, some new enthusiasm, some new goals. The current board are hoping by throwing money at the club some fucker is going to one day get it right and that is no way to run a club, i.e. pot luck. That type of management never yeilds sustained success or stability. They've had a good number of years at the job, been paid massive wages and have failed, time for them to move over and give someone else a try, after all isn't that what we do with managers? None of that guarantees they will appoint the right man, or even that they will back him properly. Appointing the right man is the key. I agree, but there is no guarantee this board will appoint that right man either, so vis a vis. Do you think, because there is a possibility that a new board could be just as bad or worse than this one, that we should just accept this board and not look at other alternatives? At what point do you say, hold on, this isn't working? They've had 10 years at the job and spent vast sums as well as hiring and firing a whole host of managers but we are going backwards, and have done every season with the exception of 3 years under SBR a manager who fell into their laps who actually asked them for the job. Could it be that they themselves are part of the problem? A serious question for you HTL: Do you honestly trust and have confidence in the board? Another one, given that there is a possibility that a new board may not be better than this one by the same token could there be a possibility that a new board could be better than this one? I agree with you on many points regarding a new board and the dangers of that but I personally would take the gamble and as a club we should never accept that this lot is our lot and that no-one else can do better, that would be foolish and dangerous. If the board were managers, they'd have been sacked long ago and there would be no complaints, from yourself included. Why the difference of attitude when it comes to the board? We've had shite managers before, yet you wanted rid of Souness who based on what past managers acheieved, did well. You claim he took us backwords and wasted money (which he did) so should be sacked, well so have the board. the problem for people like myself, htl and ne5 is that we have lived the other side, through the truly crap boards.we want to know what will come in before a change,we can't risk going back to a westwood or a mckeag, you may want to take that risk,i dont......i'm pretty sure if the right man comes along myself,ne5 and htl will shout for him to take over.....till he appears, for us the risk of throwing everything in the air and seeing what happens is too great. Well, I've lived through the same crap boards and I want Fred to go. Fuck this "better the devil you know" nonsense. We're now at a point analagous to the point where SJH took over. This board has had its day and has clearly taken the club as far as it can go -- unless we're to drop even further down the leagues, of course. Football is now going through a period of renewed investment. Despite our massive resources, current board have managed us into a position where we haven't even got any money to buy players, never mind invest in other areas of the club. They've had their chance. They've made fortunes out of us. But they've failed to take us up another level and as long as they remain in charge we're going to remain a mediocre, mid-table outfit who'll be lucky to get into the UEFA Cup every now and again -- which is pretty much what we were when I first started going to matches all of 40 years ago. to contrast where we are now to the mckeag days is lying to win argument.

  5. dudeabides, can i ask you a simple yes or no question........do you think nufc would be in a better position if shepherd packed in and just sold his shares to the highest bidder ?
  6. rot.....we were massivly in debt when signign owen and martins, debt doesn't matter,it's managing that debt that matters, get a mortgage and find out.on the second part i agree but not so much cos of europe ,more that the prices being bandied about for certain players are ridiculous and when some clubs stay where they are or get relegated those prices will be adjusted.
  7. Ah yes but this is our coaching staff. So you're saying Pearson is over-rated? Couldn't tell you at the moment as I can't say I'm all too familiar with how he operates. Although I can guarantee he's more use than Terry Mac. how d'you guarantee that ?
  8. is everyone forgetting that ferdinand was 30 and was starting to get loads of back trouble when sold.so some might say we had a years transision and bought the best player in the country when we could afor a position that woukld need replacing a year later. ferdinand getting old and picking up muscular injuries, asprilla never consistant, the problem was the injury to shearer at the start of the next season, don't forget asprilla picked up a lengthy injury aswell, like today if martins got injured how much do you want t pay for a back up striker. also i wonder how much the shearer deal actuall cost in the end if we figure in the extra revenue(merchandise, advertising etc) he brought in)
  9. Want to bet? aye i'll bet it's a long medical
  10. no view to permanent sigining which would be a fixed fee if he did brill over here first he would hopefully want to stay secondly the club would probably charge a hell of a lot more than the fixed fee for people like man ure or chelsea so if we want to sign him at the end of the season i would be confident we would get him eh ? is it "no,view to permanent signing" or "no view to permanent signing"
  11. unless they've already got the bet on i think those odds could tumble

with that thinking we'd never have bought andy cole cos we had kelly and peacock and quinn,we'd never have bought ginola as we had sellars etc The difference between signing Duff and the players you've mentioned is that he isn't better than the left winger we already had, where as Cole and Ginola were a step up in class. after watching duff for chelsea and blackburn there was more reason for seeing him as an improvment than the relativly unknown cole when we already had the best strike partnership and back up in the league and sellars was playing very well before ginola, who most had only heard of for getting the blame for france not qualifying for a major tournament, came in........aye hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  14. Was it the supporters coaches opposite the main stand that had the windows put out? ours was ok, we played footy in victoia park waiting for the pub to open...brains bitter
  15. Beardsley scored when I went, we won 2-0 with Keegan getting the other, it was probably the same game. How did you get down? supporters club coach, left at 8am on my own,my mate hitched, oxford a week later,2 wednesdays off the trot i went straight to my YTS straight off the coach
  16. He got a premiership recored tbh.. I wouldve kept him with us,at least he is better then Ameobi and Rossi.. Any c**t woudl be better than that pile of shite Ameobi. And Rossi? He'll be a good player in a few years. Us getting him when we did, then not using him properly, just highlighted what an idiot Roeder is. Can't agree more.. chopra is not and will never be a prtemiership quality forward. Huh? Neither of them were saying he was. if he's not a prem player why was roeder an idiot for letting him go Because players like Shola are not football players to start with having watched both i would take ameobi over chopra every time.

  19. I've been, I spent the full game with my back against the wall at the back of our end while Welsh tossers spent 90 minutes throwing rocks off peoples heads from a bastard tree camp. When an old bloke complained to the police he was told to stand at the back to avoid them. We came out of the ground to find the buses had windows put out and they were parked in a field opposite the main entrance, we were bricked as we walked to the train station. We were ambushed half way to the station, we stood our ground and the cowards ran away and started throwing bricks again from a distance. Yellow bastards. i went and saw beardsleys first goal for nufc, sat in the seats above their nutters, and nutters they were, climbing up the stand to get at us,then the stewards beat them to crap.talking to the stewards they said they were all from newport and hate cardiff so they can come in and beat them up and the cops encourage it.........lovely place, also cardiff women are the filthiest in the country, canny for a 1 nighter onholiday but not relationship material.

  23. growing up in the 70's was similar, loads of my mates supported leeds, liverpool, one or two even derby then forest.however by the time they hit 15/16 almost all were supporting newcastle cos they wanted to go to games and truth be told the majority didn't really support their pseudo team ,just wanted to be seen to be successful in the eyes of their peers. most of those kids will be nufc fans by the time they are 18.my fave player was kenny dalglish even when he was in hoops but i never supported any of his teams as a player.
  24. We tried to sell Milner to finance transers, we've had our lowest home league gates since the extension was build and we've turned a small profit into a massive loss. so the story goes we tried to sell milner to buy viduka(4mill for milner and 2mill for viduka),evereyone knows a slight upturn will get the extra 2,000 back and from next season we'll get an extra £20mill or so from the new foreign tv rights(i nkow every team will get them but our bankers will be looking at us alone)
  25. The bulk of the debt at the time of those signings was long-term and was being paid for by the thing it was used to build, level 7. We've since spent £15 million with a bit coming back in but our gates are falling so we will have less money coming in, we're far less likely to be given the go-ahead by the banks to spend money we haven't got. In August we had season ticket money rolling in and two domestic cup competitions to bring in extra cash, we also had the possibility of European football. We're out of both domestic cups so will take no more cash from those competitions, we only have small European gates and a relatively small amount coming in per home league game via away supporters and the few tickets that go on general sale, hardly enough to finance major signings. My guess is that we've got nothing to spend. yet we had money to spend on zat knight and huth, and extra guranteed income through the overseas rights....theres money there, maybe not a souness amount but it needs spent right rather than "he's an improvment" we need "he's quality".
