One thing that has always baffled me about RTG is the fact they're so cocksure that everyone hates us and loves them. In my experience, from visiting other football websites and speaking to fans of other clubs, we get quite a good wrap (probably due to the fact we're a relatively big team that's in no danger of winning anything any time soon ) but even more bizarrely there's not much love for Sunderland. Considering they're a club with such a bland recent history I assumed that many people would struggle to give a fuck but no, a lot of fans seem to dislike them.

As far as I'm aware vast swathes of people weren't subjugated and abused for hundreds of years because they're Craig Bellamy. I see your point, but surely we have gotten to a stage where the past, whilst being horrific, is no longer relevant. As long as racism exists I believe it's still relevant and it's not that long in the past. Christ, it's not even 20 years ago that apartheid was still around. Just look at the fuss in America over a black president. We've got the EDL and BNP. It's still an issue.

I've never been entirely comfortable with the "watches on the beach/Armani in the bogs" songs. They're borderline for me. On a more amusing note at one of our games was during our promotion season when a two or three of the charvas who got into Level 7 started singing the famous Adebayor song, shoehorning the name Kenwyne Jones into it. After a couple of choruses from these numpties there was a lull during which some old fella a few rows in front turned around and shouted "He's from Trinidad, you stupid cunts! They don't have elephants over there!" Didn't hear a peep from the lads for the rest of the game

Coventry narrowly avoided relegation at the expense of Sunderland during the 96-97 season. Obviously rather than this just being a simple twist of fate the residents of Mackemland have taken this personally and now hold a grudge against them. Basically, imagine us despising Hull for daring to finish one place above us when we went down because that's more or less their problem.

To be fair O'Neill is a fantastic motivator and he knows how to set a team up to be difficult to beat - Sunderland are already approaching Villa levels of jammyness. As a football fan I hope Short is in charge of the purse strings, as a Newcastle fan I want to see one last big money move for Heskey.

I know the official line is that Llambias/Charnley do the deals but if this is out of the "special player" fund then all those two and Ashley deserve huge pats on the back. They've played a blinder here. Providing they don't sell any fucker then they may not get as much abuse they have over the past few months.

Allardyce and Mort went over to Spain to sign Ivica Dragutinović, got turned down and ended up smuggling some confused 21 year old left back from Villareal back to England under the cover of darkness. About 5 minutes after it was announced we'd agreed a fee the club had photos of him on the website with the shirt. Pretty sure that deal was on their website first. Aye, although it was confirmed from both ends in the space of an evening. Not like nowadays.
