Personally I prefer the more moderate religious folk who are willing to let minor stuff slide - think that's being pretty flexible and accomodating with your religious beliefs, which is what people are usually in favour of. Aren't they?

He didn't know it would be a sponsor like this though, especially as other clubs have rejected sponsorship deals due to the same issues he has. You could say "He knew he'd have to play in the role the manager gave him" but there's a difference between being asked to play as a second striker and being asked to play in nets

Well he's the only player doing this, despite us having several other Muslims in the squad. Do Sissoko, Hatem etc have wonky moral compassess ? Again, 'Muslims' are not some homogenous group who all have the same beliefs and practices. This is a pretty minor difference considering there are different branches of Islam waging sectarian wars against each other.

Some people (wrongly in my opinion) think they get their morals from religion. "As a Christian, I'm strongly against gang violence." Well, OK, as a human being would have done, but at least you got there.

Is it Cisse that's harming the club, or Wonga? People pointed out it would make us unattractive to players with a moral compass.

Surely it's possible to think that spending his own money that he can afford to lose in a casino isn't as bad as actively marketing high interest loans to people without the means to pay them back. I just don't see the hypocrisy.

About f***ing time. What is? Are you saying you want this to be in the paper? If so that's extremely baffling to say the least? Why? He's trying to paint himself as some sort of saint by refusing to wear Wonga and it's about time an opposite view/opinion was aired. How is he trying to paint himself as a saint by not wearing it? All he's doing is refusing to wear it. This witch hunt is ridiculous.

If he wont touch the shirt why should he touch the money? You don't see a difference in touching money that might have once belonged to a company and actively advertising and promoting that company? Really?

So what? He knows what they are now. If he wants to force a move, he can force one without this excuse. Footballers do it every single day. He looks like the good guy doing it this way though. It's nothing to do with the Catholic/Christian argument either - he proclaims to be a practicing Muslim when he quite clearly isn't. He is using his religion to force a move elsewhere, I've no doubt about that. Does he drink booze? Does he eat pork? Does he pray to mecca? Does he believe in an afterlife? He's clearly religious to some extent, just like anyone else who claims a religion. You don't go around telling people they aren't Christians because you can flick through a bible and find parts of it they haven't followed to the letter. You don't then accuse them of being up to no good on a Sunday because they can't really be going to church because they're not a practising Christian as they're wearing clothes made out of more than one fibre. By the logic Cisse's being subjected to, are there ANY practising Muslim footballers? Given the weekend games, are there ANY Christian or Jewish players? Is the premier league entirely secular, from top to bottom? He's said it's moral and religious objections, his objections could be 95% moral and 5% religious.

No, no, it's simply not possible that he could have religious and moral objections to encouraging people to take out loans at extortionate rates of interest that could ruin their lives while thinking it does less harm to spend some of his own money in a casino. I mean, what sense would that make? it has to be absolutely all or nothing in every situation, that's what the real world's like, innit? It's like someone saying "Sorry, as a Catholic I don't think I can promote an abortion provider on my shirt" BULLSHIT, I've seen you eat meat on a Friday! LIAR! What's your real reason?! People pointed out that having a sponsor like Wonga could cause these types of issues. Cisse's well within his rights to object to promoting them.
  12. Maybe we could offer him a role on some kind of coaching capacity? Obviously for a more hands-on role he'd need a more generous remuneration package, but I'm sure there's a bit of spare cash in the transfer kitty.
  13. Best continue with protracted negotiations in an attempt to get this one 'over the line', more important than trying to sign some playing staff.

But their entire business model doesn't rely on getting people to take out loans they can't pay back, as is the case with payday loans companies which get 50% from their income not from interest, but from fines and charges for missing payments.

Because he quite happily wore a shirt with virging money on, while playing in the barclays premier league. They're both money lenders who chatge interest. What Cisse is effectively saying is that Sharia law is ok with interest rates of less than 50%. Which is absolute bollocks. No matter how many times I see this argument (and it's a lot) I really don't get it. Reports are that he has religious and moral objections to it. I can't see how it's so baffling to people that you might let something slide that has a minor conflict with your religious or moral beliefs, but not something that has a major conflict with it. That's being quite flexible and accommodating with your beliefs, exactly what people are asking of him. Oh, a devoutly Jewish player has a problem being sponsored by a porn website? But they didn't have a problem with begin sponsored by Waitrose who sell pork, HYPOCRITE! HYPOCRITE! You're Catholic and don't want to be sponsored by an abortion provider? But you were sponsored by Sainsbury's who sell johnnies, HYPOCRITE! HYPOCRITE! Players would be in their rights to object to the sponsor with no religious justification at all.

Are there teams of a similar level to Sunderland who had a massive turn around of players and failed miserably? Can't particularly think of good examples one way or the other.

  20. The game's massively biased against defensive midfielders in general like. You can be Xabi Alonso in the holding role, but the defenders get the points for the clean sheet you helped maintain and unless you're getting the last or penultimate touch for a goal, tough shit. Plus the bonus point system favours attacking play as well.
  21. Who set up the league last year? May be able to just renew it in your league menu. See they're pushing a new pay-to-play league this year with cash prizes. Tried incorporating RVP in my team and got to the point where I had to buy 2 midfielders with 5m. Then tried without him in, managed to fill my team with pretty good players and then realsied there was no-one I particularly wanted to be captain for GW1.
