question for the "we didn't buy enough" ultras - what amount of players do you think prevent goals from ever being conceded, having bad games, or even losing occasionally to shithouse teams? because i'm pretty sure the answer doesn't exist.

Played "our game" today - tons of possession but ... absolutely no idea how to break them down. Yes our lot is average and we miss Wilson and ASM, sure. But AFCB are no great shakes either and for me we had enough in the starting XI. imo Eddie & co fumbled the bag a bit here. gotta prepare better against teams that will do this at home.

i'm down to try anything to break up the pointlessness (in general - there are the odd years with exceptions) of the last 6 or so weeks for the majority of the league where 1st-6th is settled, 7th-15th aren't shuffling much, 16th-18th are the only ones really left duking it out, and 19th and 20th are stone dead. obviously every team will tell you they go out to win every game, if not for european placement or survival then pride, but no one here can, with a straight face, look me in the eye and tell me a good chunk of the league doesn't coast into summer every year.

the past two days have completely broken some people's brains with regards to VAR, officials and conspiracies. some of our lot are entering actual tinfoil territory.

I will admit the presence of VAR only heightens the frustration and anger, and in that respect it's not a positive 10 years ago it's "oh he had a bad angle / he was blocked by players / must not have seen it" and you could maybe kinda go on with your life. Stopping the game clock when the ball is not in play has been floated for a long time though, with little to do with ads or american sport. Shorten the halves to 35 minutes each (or thereabouts) and just stop the clock for all stoppages in play; throw ins, free kicks, goal kicks, etc. Some enforced breaks in american sports are for ads but the example you give - running out the clock (e.g. walking off the field before getting to 0:00) - is due to a quirky combination of game clock + play clock in american football allowing a team to basically forfeit their last play to receive a break (end of half/quarter) or kill off the game so their opponents don't get the ball back. A different facet of that same quirk is the reason the last 15 seconds of NBA playoff games typically last 37 minutes.
