Callum Wilson: offered 'incentive-based' contract extension (Ornstein)
thomas replied to Strawberry's topic in Football
It looks like a ready made stand-in replacement for Wilson was never a top priority. Maybe they (Howe and co) thought they could keep him healthy (unlikely). Or maybe they thought they could get by with Wood in any case (more probable). We'll likely never know the rationale. After Botman, it did look like their priority was getting in attacking options up front for whoever they decided to play there, but none have materialized. TBH I understand frustrations overall with their slower, conservative growth strategy especially after we get told we're "the richest club in the world" and our strong finish last season + good start to this one. It'd be nice to go hog wild, pedal to the metal and just see where we can go. But, my joke post above aside, I don't think failing to do so is malicious or incompetent - a place where a lot of vented frustrations eventually wind down to accusing them of. And I think it pays off in the long run. -

how long's a scan normally take, anyway? #worrying. their inability to build a perfect squad to account for something like this in one window suggests, as i have been correctly saying all along, that the regime is in over their head and don't know what they're doing. -
it'd be hard not to. And I don't even particularly dislike Wood, he's just Shola mk II.

This might be the year his legs finally remember how old they are.

he fired off that nothing tweet like we're still owned by Ashley "they're still working but nothing close" was a good day's work last year, if you knew nothing.

dark mode is a blessing because it lets me scroll past the chaff until i'm blinded by a tweet, for good or bad

Aye. And I count myself squarely among the "we're here to build slowly, let's do that" crowd, but 1 or 2 more really would elevate us. Still think top 6 would require some serious luck but I've seen enough in 3 games now to believe it's more like "winning bingo" odds than "winning euromillions" odds.

I stand vindicated.

first half showed we can compete against the best in the world second half showed that we can only do it for about 45 minutes seems to be a solid starting point to argue for further strengthening in what's left of the window. and i think the regime would be receptive to it tbh.

Probably more of a Shelvey replacement in terms of playing as a deep midfielder. Won't have the attacking threat but could help unshackle bruno and joe from defensive duties, letting them be nuisances much further up.

I believe in Harvey Dent David Kent

reckon it'll be done come wednesday

Paqueta, Paquata. Let's call the whole thing off.

let's be real though, given we're both americans - you're the exception and not the rule. We as a population are not going to buy a ton of shirts or suddenly start following a foreign club in large numbers simply because an american is playing there. calling pulisic a big commercial move was overselling it a bit, is all I was getting at.

eh. yanks aren't really mad for "soccer" merch outside of MLS and, besides the poor souls you know and love on this board, the rest of us are glory hunters when it comes to the PL. still want him here, mind.

shocking lack of luke edwards on that list.
