I’m sure he can help with the systematic problems in the usage of VAR in England with his experience with MLS. I still don’t understand who let Riley to come up with his system. VAR should be able to tell the referee that you might want to take another look on something and let the referee make the decision. Not this current system where VAR makes the decision and the on field ref makes the symbolic jog to the screen to approve. I haven’t seen the Oliver accident last weekend but fair play to him, I’m sure he’s frustrated with the current system too. I also don’t understand why the ref can’t raise his hand himself and say he needs another look. VAR has no idea if the ref on the pitch missed something, why can’t the main ref make the call on what he missed? Once again I believe it will get better but something has to be done with the people who are watching the screens. Every sport has been able to make it work so there’s no reason why it wouldn’t work on football. I often read that football is a free flowing game but it’s just as much stop-start as any other sport, clock just keeps rolling. I think the crying about offsides is largely irrelevant and naive. @Yorkie wants to draw the line (pun not intended) on attacker getting unfair advantage but where do you draw the line there? It would only become way more messy than it is right now and the arguments would move on to subjective matters which VAR already struggles mightily with. It’s irritating to be in offside by a toenail but human eye can’t make the calls in real time and I don’t see any other option. I really hope the new technology works as it should as on paper it sounds really good.
  2. This is just way too simplistic and results-oriented view to have. We've played five games and Brighton was the only poor performance. Failing to get a result against Crystal Palace doesn't change anything especially with all the injuries we are dealing with. We are clearly improving but have a thin squad.

    Alexander Isak

This is exactly how I see it. IMO we don't have the squad right now to have either Wilson or Isak on the bench and it's probably Isak who has to make the sacrifice on the position he plays for now. Wouldn't expect us to have this problem next season and both will be then only used in their natural position with Isak as the clear first choice.
  4. 8.5/10 seems fair. 8 seems too harsh after the Isak signing, 9 feels too generous after only signing one attacking player. We would be fine if Wilson and ASM stay fit but that’s not very likely and we are still seeing Wood and especially Murphy being the first options from the bench.
  5. Once again, there’s no clear and obvious in offsides. Also linesman’s opinion doesn’t mean shit when they start to draw the lines.
  6. Sorry for the tone of my post, guess I'm way more interested in officiating and VAR than most fans. Good to have you back!
  7. After calming down this really was an impressive performance. I really didn't think we were in any trouble until Wood&Murphy were introduced and our attacking threat went to zero. Then you consider who we were missing and the first hour becomes even better. Squad depth is sorely lacking but that's something that can't be fixed in two windows, still praying for a CM or a winger before the window shuts. Howe has done fucking amazing job transforming us so far, exciting times.
  8. Calm down, I answered to you and the follow up wasn't directed solely at you. It has been in use for ages now though.
  9. Of course it was reviewed, how come people still don't understand how VAR works?

Clear and obvious doesn't apply to offsides. I'm not going to complain about offside decisions, just hope the technology improves. Today was another example that the job is way beyond human ability without replays, linesman wasn't even close to the line and 100% guessed it.

You clearly don't understand American football and the other point is just ridiculous tin foil stuff.

@Stifler, please give me one logical reason why it should be a 90 minute running clock? What do we gain from it? Do you enjoy watching time-wasting and players being treated for fake injuries?

    Joelinton

He was showing great technique and calmness today after nicking possession. He's a beast and will only get better when he learns more about his new position.

I'm just extra irritated by a Liverpool fan mate spouting shite in a Whatsapp group. We were extremely comfortable until Isak was subbed out and we had zero threat for the last 30 minutes.

6 seconds was like two decades ago and every keeper eats 20-30 seconds in that spot now. Even if you add the full 90 seconds it should have been over when Burn makes the block at 96.35.

I see no reason why Marriner doesn't whistle it when Burn makes the block and we are already 5 seconds over the added added time.

That's bullshit. You're not adding time for every break ie. Liverpool's freekicks. Marriner should have added 60-70 seconds for the Pope treatment and that's it as he's allowed to take 20-30 seconds to get the ball back in the play. No fucking reason to not have a 60 minute stopped clock which might have screwed us anyway today. Would be so much better experience to watch the game without all the unnecessary rolling around and controversies like this.

Pope was down for 90 seconds, he had the ball so would've taken ~30 seconds to put the ball back in play. Ball went out for a corner at 96.35 and IMO that should be it for the game. We were shithousing a lot but I see no reason why Marriner didn't blow the whistle before the corner. Not an egregious error but fucking frustrating.
  19. Yeah, I thought about the same after writing that post. Real chance some big club goes down this year and it could very well be Everton tbh.
  20. I thought he was the worst player on the pitch in the second half and Patterson completely nullified. Every corner hit the first man too.
  21. I don’t think they are in any danger of going down. Maupay is a perfect backup for DCL and while their signings aren’t sexy they are really good for where Everton are right now. Gordon, Patterson and Iwobi have really impressed me so far too.
