I agree on Solano for captain, said it after the Spurs game. Solano shouldn't just be taking pens, he should be taking the majority of our set-pieces. Bob Moncur on Century has been raging about Emre's deliveries. When they were talking about the prospect of a consolation goal, he said he'd go home happy if we could deliver one set-piece that didn't hit the first man.

Hartlepool with a last minute winner against promotion rivals. Something to cheer me up at least.
-
Good side tbh. Howay man. They're alright, they're not the type of team NUFC should be getting spanked like that off.

Fucking Everton. Desperate.

Pele has scored for Southampton. laugh.gif

Absolute crap, yeah I'm sure when you take pens in the park against your mates its not that hard. But try taking a penalty with thousands of people watching and putting there faith in you to score what is considered an easy chance.. Try taking a penalty for your country knowing your entire nation is watching you and that the next thing you do will make you a hero or a national target. its anything but easy. If you took 50 pens in Premiership games I'd bet you'd miss 40 of them and so would I. but you can be a good pen taker without being a good striker is the point Exactly. And a crap striker can quite easily end up with 10-15 league goals, just because he takes the penalties. Edit: wish he'd just taken that one though.

Barry scores another penalty. 8 league goals for the season. As good as Rooney tbh.

The "sign on" song has been sung by everyone at Liverpool and Everton for years. First time I ever heard the "used to be shite, now he's alright" song was Boro fans about Zenden. Some of those are cracking like, our song repertoire is shit these days.

Reading keeper, the scary looking bald one.

Very prolific, but penalties still shouldn't count when talking about how good a striker is, and it's ridiculous to say otherwise imo. There's loads of full backs and midfielders have been their team's penalty takers at times over the years (Gareth Barry, Denis Irwin, Stuart Pearce off the top of my head) but if they got ten goals a season from the spot, I still wouldn't stick the fuckers up front. Gareth Barry has scored 5 penalties this season, that would probably have been 6 had he taken the one against Reading that Angel scored early in the season. He's currently on 8 goals for the season (7 league) which puts him joint 5th in the Premiership goalscoring chart, level with Obafemi Martins, Andy Johnson and Darren Bent. Anyone want him up front... or does he just take the penalties? If every team got the same amount of penalties every season, it can count. Otherwise it's a totally arbitrary figure.
-
I'm sure Shay would be delighted that the person who thinks Ibrahimovic > Henry thinks that he's not one of the league's top keepers. As for the bit in bold, fuck me, is that the best argument you can come up with? Christ Almighty.
-
TCD, a couple of times you've mentioned that Boro defeat at the start of the season as an endorsement of Petr Cech. Last season Boro beat them 3-0 at the Riverside, with Cech heavily at fault for at least one of the goals.
-
Lehmann usually drops them tbh.
-
£12m  £5m absolute tops, and I'd baulk at that tbh. We need a stopgap taker of chances, someone with a bit of presence about them to play alongside Martins for 6 months till Owen gets back, not a fucking fortune on someone who doesn't score goals. £12m that's got me chuckling, Jesus wept.
-
Can't believe anyone would pick Lehmann, this season he's been hilariously bad at times. Given that Cech is out for the season, plus I think he's error prone at times, I've gone for Seamus, Jaaskelainen and VDS. Jaaskelainen is massively underrated.

I find that bizarre. I always felt safer with Hislop in goal (even though he wasn't that great either). Disagree - neither were top class, but Hislop was much slower at getting down to ground shots than Pav - once saw Pav make a really tremendous save at SJP against Everton ; ball hit defender & Pav was going wrong way - changed direction in mid-leap, and not only stopped it, but held the ball too. Gordon Banks himself said that was one of the greatest saves he'd ever seen. The shot was from Anders Limpar and it hit Steve Howey on the way iirc. I'd love to see it again.
-
Yes, no doubt. I'm also of the opinion that if Pav had played all season and not that useless fucker, Hislop (particularly as billytray says, at Ewood), we might well have won it too. With Shay, no question as far as I'm concerned. You just have to look at the amount of points he saves us these days.
-
How about Ben Foster? He has no obvious weakness, and he is good in everything. The next Peter Schmeichel. He should play between the sticks for England instead of Robinson. laugh.gif That you're serious is terrifying.
-
To be fair to Pav, Given has had some of his worst games at the Reebok. Not ones where he's made errors necessarily, but where he's just looked very uncomfortable. Their "launch it long and bully goalkeepers" approach is just right for such an abortion of a football club.
-
I know how you feel, I went to the old ground a few times and it was a shithole, it was never top of the wish list for away games. At least they won't have had "I Feel Good" playing when they scored and a stupid cunt with a big flag running up and down the touchline with it written on. James Brown will be spinning in his grave. When they bury him like.
-
bluebiggrin.gif Is this the hangover? The annoyance of having to spend a day in that fucking hick-town at a circus masquerading as a football club and come away with jack-shit.
-
Wish Huntington had snapped his fucking leg. Allardyce is a fat whinging shitbag, coaches one of the dirtiest, most odious team of cheats in the Premiership, then moans like a little girl when anyone dares to go in a bit rough on them, a bit like he did when he didn't get the chance to get the fuck out of Bolton for the England job.
-
Good first half but God, absolutely dreadful in the second, barely managed to string two passes together. Bolton were poor today, definitely there for the beating, but we shot ourselves in the foot with the OG and after that, we were very poor indeed. Didn't really expect too much from the game, but fucking annoying to throw it away like that again and show no signs of getting back into it. And I still fucking hate Bolton. Not a Premiership club as long as I have a hole in my arse, fuck off back to where you came from, you tinpot twats.
