We seemed to carry the ball up the pitch fine without Jonas against Everton. Hence my point about players who deliver the ball and do little else in terms of carrying it, which HBA is clearly not. Certainly no problem with Jonas being dropped for him other than it perhaps being a waste of the Frenchman pushed out wide.

If Jonas picks the ball up in his own half, runs 50 yards past a couple of players, puts a shit low cross in that goes for a throw or wins a free kick then to a large extent he has done his job. He is incredibly frustrating at times and his end product is consistently poor but even then, if you can't see what he does bring to the team you're not paying enough attention. Dropping Jonas for a player whose main asset is delivery, whether that be Larsson or anyone else will encourage long balls more than anything because we're not good enough to pass the ball all the way upfield.

Moving Barton into a central position would be ridiculous.

Haven't you seen enough of Nolan behind the striker to see that he is not very good at that role as well as the rest of the team being much, much better when playing 4-4-2? Yes, Seb is right footed, but so is Jonas. Not really. Havn't got to see many games the last 6 months, but he seems to be excelling in the box, while contributing little else bar his captain duties on the pitch, so why not give him a more offensive role? Because it doesn't work and performances over the last 12 months make it clear. The team is far more effective with Nolan in a 4-4-2.

Hmm. Don't understand the clamour for a right sided midfielder given Barton's form, Gosling's near return to fitness (because that's certainly where he's played most) and the fact that Routledge and Jonas can both play there adequately. If he displaces Barton from the right sided berth then it's lunacy.

Some would do well to remember Carroll's near identical miss at the same end last season.
