All this keeping an unchanged side is bollocks. The top sides rotate all the time to accomodate the right players for the next match. With this in mind, Afra should start in a 4-5-1 line up, just behind BA. Santon should replace Raylor and LB. Cant decide on Obertan, but think Marvaux would be a better choice on the right. We should put pampering the current team to one side for games like this. It will increase competition if managed the right way, not decrease it.

Our record against Blackburn was shit, we won. Records mean nothing. Anyway, will not be any easy game but I think our quality should show through. The big thing for me is that we do not go to conservative and at the same time, not believe we only have to show up. Should be an entertaining game, and one I think we will win.

My mate works the boxes at SJP and his family members were saying the exact same thing at the Fulham game, can't settle at all apparently. I lived there for 5 years. Dump. Hardly suprising anyone can settle there.

Anyone care to detail the following for our managers back to KK (first time around)? Games in Charge Win % Lose % I cant be arsed, but think AP would be up there statistically.

It's more accurate to say that, as a manager at least, he's been in and out of the game. At our club, the pressure did get to him and the experience seemed to blunt his appetite for management. Even at Blackburn, he ended up being kicked upstairs after questions were raised about his commitment, and then of course he left altogether. Celtic didn't seem to work at all. In his first spell at Liverpool, he resigned due to stress, albeit more understandably in that instance, having lived through two major tragedies. Despite the early successes, it's a patchy, stop-start record. You can understand why there are question marks about his ability to handle the bad times. His comments about refs felt a bit weird. He complained that they were biased against Liverpool, and then he seemed to back-track by saying he would talk to the owners about the problem and wouldn't do anything to harm the club's reputation. Well, you either withdraw the comment or you stick to your guns. It all felt a bit weak. In the Brighton interview, he actually looked a bit stressed and tired, I thought. Defending your team is fine, but he actually seemed a bit rattled by the question. I saw another interview a short while back where he was asked when Steven Gerrard (I think it was) was likely to be back. It was a reasonable question, but his response was 'I don't know, I'm not psychic'. A bit rude. I think he's got a lot of the qualities of a good manager, but also has some vulnerable areas. First time round at Liverpool, he inherited the best team in the country and at Blackburn he was able to outspend every other club. The characteristic of a really top class manager is an ability to over-achieve on the resources available, and I don't think we've seen that yet with Dalglish. Does that make Pardew top class? You could argue he has over-achieved in not only total lack of backing and spending but also amidst hard times. Dogface would never have stayed under these conditions. Pardew has certianly worked with what he's got (and done without what he has lost). Not saying he is top class, but compared to the KD situation, he is miles ahead IMHO.

To think this argument is going to rumble on for another 2 seasons as well is the bit that baffles me. How, Why? He should never have been offered a new contract. He must look like Pele in training.

Why should Newcastle United and Sports Direct be associated? Because they are owned by the same person? Do all sports clubs owners associate the clubs they own with other organisations in their portfolio? The only thing that links NUFC and SD is Mike Ashley. Sports Direct isn't a local company, it has no historical ties to the club - why should we have to accept providing them with free advertising that stains our stadium? I wasn't trying to suggest that SD should be a side interest to Ashley, but why should the fans of this club be forced to support his brand? "to promote his side interest" So that's exactly what you were trying to suggest. That is the only reason for the association... Which is wrong. He is using NUFC to promote his own company, that is what I disagree with. The 2008 and 2009 accounts suggest NUFC paid SD £47,000 for the privilege of branding in SD! The concept that we are in fact 'supporting' SD is strengthened, when you consider the opportunity cost of not having a stadium sponsor that actually pays for advertising... It looks truly horrible and, personally, I see it as having degraded a great stadium. But as far as the money side is concerned it's part of the deal with having Ashley own us. Just reading this forum it's obvious that plenty of people want him gone. As ever it's up to the individual as how much good they think he has done and is doing. But if we were funded by externally borrowed money we would be paying huge chunks of interest. In fact I shudder to think what rate we would be paying. If there is anyone around who would lend £140 million (or even half that) to a technically insolvent business they would want a substantial margin for doing so. Ashley is a package deal - like it or not. Spot on that. They might not be paying us, but we are not paying him currently either. As much as it looks fucking shit, is a shit brand etc, there is not alot we can really do about it. If we have, for example, 5M coming in from xSponsor each year and it went to Ashley there would be uproar. He cannot win either way, according to most that is.
