The mackem defeat still rankles with me. Yup - I was in 'The Corner' that night, stood towards the back. When all the knackers ran onto the pitch from down the front, it was pretty much game over. Me and my pals left at that point. It was a long bus journey back home to Bedlington.

Has to be the 2-0 playoff defeat at home to Sunderland in 1990. Devastated and as low as I've ever felt as a Newcastle supporter. Mind, the loss to Partizan Belgrade on pens, in the CL qualifier doesn't come far behind.

The old system was fine as it was, for me. The inception of the CL has been about making money and preserving the status quo of the top clubs. I do enjoy watching the CL, but the old EC, CWC and the UEFA ruled.

For me - v Shrewsbury back in 81/82, I think. Can't remember the score.

Geremi - Charlie is wide left, with Butt and Emre in the middle. -

This will have to go down as a big missed chance if we fail to get a win here today. We've allowed Everton to get back into the game, and Fat Sam's tactical choices again seem to be creating confusion and costing us. -

Only one team team playing it seems, since Everton got level. Once again, we are still in the dressing room for the 2nd half. -

Butt ! -
At least we can now be thankful that these two (Hall and Shepherd) now have nothing to do with the club. Sure it's not good news, but if there is mileage in the police going after them, then hopefully that will happen. However they'll both be protected by very powerful lawyers and it'll be interesting to see if either take action against the NoTW.

Anderson did have a go at Ameobi tonight, saying that he 'hadn't done enough/missed his chance' when he went off. No disgrace to lose at Highbury - I just thought we'd have made a much better go of it. Still much work to do for Fat Sam. -

Bedtner heads a good opportunity over - easier to score apparently. -

Harper will be being rested - and it also gives Shay a run-out. -
Now that's raised a smile !

Good move for Leeds if this goes through, IMO. Will be interesting to keep an eye on their progress and whether Freddy has learned to keep his gob shut ! And supposidly Chelsea were a matter of hours from going into administration before the Russian bought them. They were in serious financial trouble.

I remember that celebration v Bolton. Top lad.

Games that I've been to ; Newcastle 5 Man City 0 in 1983 - 3 from Beardsley with one each from Keegan and Waddle IIRC Newcastle 2 Man United 1 in 1987 - on the day of my 14th birthtday. Must have been around 36000 inside the ground, with 10-15000 locked out. Lads sitting in the trees at the Leazes End, and also on top of the roof of the University dorms. Paul Goddard scored the winner at the Gallowgate End - and we were playing with 10 men too. Newcastle 5 Leicester 4 in 1990 - 4-2 down with 13mins to go. Enter Quinn, John Galllagher to tie it to 4-4 and then Mark McGhee scored the winner in the last minute. Cue bedlam in the Scoreboard where we were ! Newcastle 1 Portsmouth 0 in 1992 - David Kelly - enough said.

Was a lad called David Longhirst. I've got no sympathy for Dyer. I don't find it funny (breaking his leg), but perhaps it's a bit of kharma for being the d1ckhead that he is. Remember this is the lad that was instrumental in the downfall of Sir Bobby Robson. Not only did he disrespect the captain's armband (throwing it to the ground as if it were a dirty rag), but he also refused to play right wing when SBR asked him.
