Poor game, but one that we never had to get out of 2nd gear for. We've got into a good habit of winning playing averagely. Boro had huffed and puffed, but offered very little. Coloccini deserved MoM and Guthrie did well down the right (two assists) though he does keep on drifting inside. Due to Nolan going missing in midfield, we do conceed a lot of possession and that will be something that needs addressing next summer. We'll be punished by vastly better sides if we have Smith/Nolan in the middle of the park.

I nearly got stuck in the car on Lanercost Drive (Fenham) at about 530pm. Headed up the bank, struggled to get 3/4 of the way up and had to turn around and come back. It was mad. Council knew snow was on the way, so why the hell do the wait until if falls before gritting the roads? Madness. Should have had it done ready. If the game is called off tomorrow, then someone at the CC wants shot. -
Was the Charlton game back in 2006, if memory serves? I'd actually made it to the Trent to meet my mate as per, and word spread that the game had been cancelled. Had to get wor lass to come and pick me up.

Didn't listen in, but am happy enough with a point against an in-form side away from home. Bring on Boro next Sunday. What happened with Radio Newcastle after the match, lads? (for those who didn't listen in like me) -

Good win but once we went down to 10men, it was backs to the wall. A combination of good defending/saves from Harper and chances not taken kept us in the game in the 2nd half. Once again, everything came down the left side, with Jonas and Enrique turning in good shifts. Guthrie kept on drifting inside, which meant our our outlet down the right (until Pancrate came on) was Simpson. As for Pancrate - what a superb goal. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the FL show tonight. Just over 43000 there again too. Don't know how many Watford brought up as couldn't see from my seat beneath in the Leazes. MoM - Harper for some quality saves during the 2nd half. -
Great goal. If he keeps going like this, he could turn out to be a very shrewd signing.

This. We having nothing to lose. If Robert is keen on a return then perhaps he'd see it as a good opportunity to come in and do a job for a bit. Still say that as infuriating as he was, the lad was sheer quality under SBR. No-one has come close since. I'd even put him ahead of Ginola if I'm honest.

Bad draw, but I'm of the belief that we should send as good a team as we can down there and try to get a win. I know promotion has to be a priority, but surely a cup run would be nice too. If Hughton does what he did at Peterboro then where is the point in going down to watch for the thousands that will doubtlessly do that? -
That's if the rumours from True Faith's match report from yesterday are to be believed.... Player fatigue is always a bit of a concern, but it's also a bit of a cop-out. Compared to other Championship sides, some (in fact most) have smaller squads than us. These lads are professional footballers, supposidly as the peak of their fitness. And they have trouble playing 2/3 times a week? Christ - god help them if they had to live in the real world.

Spot on from Farrington there.

I believe it boils down to the MC's. Nolan just doesn't get involved enough when he plays there, and Smith ends up being over-ran against teams which have a bit of pace and movement. Nolan has been most effective when he's supported a striker as an AMC. I believe that's where most of his goals have come from.

First half, we were excellent. We moved the ball around well, with everything going down the left hand side, via Jose and Jonas. The former was his usual superb self throughout. Three good goals inside 28mins and it was game over. What a pity we took our foot off the gas in the 2nd half, and that is what is so annoying about us at present. Today was an opportunity (like the Peterborough game) to hand out a hammering. Instead we chose to sit back content with what we had. Not sure if that is the players themselves doing that, or being under instructions from Hughton. Either way, got to be happy with the win and moving further clear of the chasing pack. Swansea fans were very disappointing and only began singing during the 2nd half. Expected a bit more from them, if I'm honest. Good atmosphere up in the singing corner, as always. Liked the banner that read 'Ashley - hows the fraud investigation going?' that was hung up before KO.
