How many clubs can ever really say that though? Honest question. I'm saying decent cover, look at the likes of Stoke and West Brom their squads are much deeper in terms of quality and if we can't compete with them in terms of squad size then we really have major issues as a club. We have a squad of 49, West Brom 40, Stoke just 36. Ok that's just in terms of numbers, but while I may be underestimating how good some of their players might be, looking through the lists I'm still really struggling to see this 'much deeper in terms of quality' claim. You've just counted the last squad number ffs. That would mean some teams have 99 as some players carry those numbers. Do'h. /Still got the same or bigger squad than both of them mind. And still struggling to see the extra quality.

No need to conclude that yet, it looks like we're at least trying to buy a proper striker. Unacceptable! Do, or do not. There is no try.

How many clubs can ever really say that though? Honest question. The ones competing for top honours do. The fact we don't and won't anytime soon tells you the extent of Ashley's ambition for his club, sadly. I'd be very surprised if supporters of 'the ones competing for top honours' didn't have very similar concerns about their fringe players as we do to be fair.

What was the last transfer window you were happy with out of interest? Depends how you look at it. There have been windows where we've come out stronger than we went in (January 2012 springs to mind with Cisse coming in and no outgoings), but I don't think I've ever felt completely happy with our squad, in the sense that we have genuine competition for places all over the pitch like the (other?) big clubs do. What I meant though is we always penny pinch, look for bargains rather than focusing on the positions that need strengthening (last summer!), try to unsettle players to force the selling club's hand. We also like to bring in unknown youngsters in the hope they develop well, which in fairness they sometimes do (Krul, Bigi). As fans we always go mad during windows at the apparent lack of progress on our reported targets, but then again we also seem to do a lot of business under the radar too. As I said earlier, our approach to transfers has its merits and its drawbacks. Personally I think we've done pretty well since Ashley came in with regards to transfer policy on the whole. My main gripe is that there seems to be a lack of understanding of the need to build a squad rather than a first team, which is especially damaging with the additional fixtures in Europe and considering a fair few purples are quite injury prone (Steven Taylor, Hatem?) and our back up players are mostly mediocire at best. You just have to look at the benches we regularly have to put out to see where our primary problem with regards to transfer policy lies.

How embarrassing, but so not surprising if true. Pardew probably hardly has any real idea who he is! God we need a new manager ... http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/67064/2107675-not_sure_if_serious_2_super.jpg

  10. Decent. 'Under a Mackem sky' though, not a pleasant thought.
  11. Hello Derek, is that you? Awwwighht son.
  12. 1 million probably equates to 2000 years worth of support from your average match going fan.
  13. It's tough to point it out as a failure on our part given the players we later signed (HBA, Ba, Cisse), but signing Moses in January 2010, when Wigan were the only Premiersip side interested, for 2-3 million would have been fantastic business. I've watched him many times since the change in nationality and he's a genuine star. We are a big enough team that he might have stayed as well. He has been horrendous in France and has high wages, but I wanted NUFC to sign Kalou in the summer for that exact role. Turned us down did he not? <- Moses I mean Agree on Kalou btw. We fucked his agent around, fact. Amazing considering our negotiating team, I know. Care to divulge?
  14. Until Santon demands a move back home, Colo continues his slide into muppetry, and Debuchy ends up being considerably less than the salvation from Simpson that we'd hoped. I was so God damned happy last year that it looked like with Demba and Papiss we were set for a top class striker pairing for the next 5 years. Turns out they never could form a partnership, and one shipped out at the earliest opportunity.
  15. Around that yeah, in theory it should be a no brainer honestly especially considering staying up will pay his and Remy's fee. Unfortunately Ashley won't see it that way. If there is genuine concern in the boardroom that we could go down, I'd be astonished if he didn't see it that way. I just don't think they are at that stage yet.

Just that the supporters deserved better after the long journey and that he felt he could have done better. Nothing earth shattering, but seemed genuine, and was a nice gesture in amongst the usual 'Brrrrap brrrrrrrraaaaaapping'.

I don't think we went there trying to forfeit the game. There is a possibility we didn't risk Colo and Papiss which might have made a difference, but beyond that we just played like shit. That is the fault of the manager and the players, some of whom went there with things to prove, and beyond Ranger, simply looked like they were less than arsed about their chance. I appreciated Rangers tweet after the game, seems he is waking up to the fact he is very close to fucking up his future.

He's out of contract in the summer. And? We've upgraded a first team player... before he actually left! That's a rare occurrence. Embrace it.

Right, fuck this shit, we've given him enough time. Time to move on, and move Heaven and Earth for Nikola Zigic.
  21. Just for the off chance we can discuss shin splints again. Seems to be a real lack of that condition these days.
  22. Sounds about right. Just scored his first goal in yonks.
