Skysports.com understands Newcastle have won the race for Plymouth teenager Aaron Spear. Spear has been one of the most sought-after young players in the country after impressing in Plymouth's youth teams. A number of Premier League sides including Arsenal, Portsmouth and Everton have been tracking the 15-year-old but Newcastle have stolen a march on their rivals by luring the prodigious striker to Tyneside. Spear held talks with Newcastle Executive Director Dennis Wise earlier this month and the teenager has plumped for the Magpies ahead of other clubs. The youngster's mum, Caroline Spear, has confirmed the highly-rated youngster has agreed a deal to join Newcastle after being impressed by what they had to offer him. "Aaron has agreed to join Newcastle and now we are waiting on the two clubs to agree a fee," Spear told skysports.com. "We spent a couple of days up in Newcastle and met with Dennis Wise and we were very impressed by what he had to offer. "A number of clubs had expressed an interest in Aaron, but he has decided he wants to go to Newcastle. "We are very proud of him and we are excited about his future at Newcastle." All that is required for the deal to be concluded is for the two clubs to agree a fee for the striker. Spear is currently on schoolboy terms with the Pilgrims and the club would be entitled to receive a fee when he makes the move to St James' Park.

Schwiensteiger in Butts role?

I really wouldn't want him. I reckon he's mentally fuked here in England and at his age a pointless signing, we need younger players, our squad is too old to start with.

Great news.

Bobby Moncur wins his battle with cancer Former Newcastle and Sunderland captain Bobby Moncur has won his nine-month battle against cancer. The 63-year-old former Scotland international, who was the last man to lift a trophy for Newcastle, has received the all-clear from his specialist Mark Katory at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead where he has received treatment for cancer of the colon. The grandfather-of-three, skipper of the 1969 Fairs Cup winning side, had six months of chemotherapy and surgery to remove 12 inches of his colon. He said: 'It's great news. I have always said that when I was given the all-clear I wanted people to know. For someone like me you can never really say all-clear but the cancer has gone. 'I consider myself very lucky. The treatment was not pleasant but there are a lot of people worse off. 'I had a tremendous reaction from well-wishers when I was first diagnosed and I want them to know the news.' Moncur has revealed reading an article about the disease by chance helped him make his first moves towards treatment. And the memory of his old adversary and the former England skipper Bobby Moore gave him the push to seek help when he was first unwell after a holiday last year. Moore died of bowel cancer in 1983. Former Scotland captain Moncur, who now works as a local radio summariser, said: 'When I was diagnosed I was totally staggered. It was a shock and terrible news. Cancer was a disease that happened to other people. 'You do have dark moments and think "what if?" I was furious it should happen to me. I was angry because I was really enjoying life. 'I was on holiday and not feeling clever but I was being a typical man thinking I would be all right. 'Two days later I was reading an article about a guy who had colon cancer. He described what happened to him and I thought `I've got something like that' but I was making excuses to myself. 'The guy said he went to the doctor because he met Bobby Moore's wife Stephanie at a charity function and she said if Bobby had gone to the doctor when he should, he would still be alive. 'When I read that I felt Bobby Moore was telling me to do something about it. Within a month, I was operated on.'

Tore a thigh muscle signing a new contract with Fenerbache.

How can you make an assumption as to how much we're going to pay this Derdiyok gadgie if/when he signs his contract? No assumption bigger than others are making. Viduka = £75k pw value of £1m Shola = £25k pw value of £2.5m Smith = £60k pw value of £4m Derdiyok on £30k pw, very fair wage for a 19 year old. Probably should have deducted Derdi's £6m transfer fee, but no doubt you will approve of the arithmetic Do you think I'm going to check the fucking thing like? Just give him a D- and be done with it.

Is this another case in terms of wages of only believing the press when it says what you want to think? More of a 'suppose it's true' scenario. Which was all i was doing (in a lot less way tbf) and you had a problem with it. It's all we can do, we don't see the figures, but what we do know as a fact is we spend £1.2m per week (at the end of this season) on players wages. Try and break it down, £120k for Owen, £80k for Viduka, £60+k for Emre, Barton, Smith, Duff and even then its still hard to reach.

No D is giving him to a club for nothing, no transfer fee to encourage a move.
-
He did a good job, well and effective one on his day, still had a lot of missing days amongst those though. If he was fit every game then i really wouldn't have made the poll, but since he cannot be relied upon, and everyone is happy at our new wages cutting approach from Ashley, then Viduka really is a big target that needs taken out to suit the new streamline self supporting club, and not paying over the odds in wages for has beens and household names.
-
Why don't you pull out some pointless statistic to prove your case if it is then?
-
I doubt it. £1.2m a week we dish out, its got to go somewhere. Boro offered him £60kpw to stay so...
-
Yeah when i was thinking of D i was thinking of that and using his wages to almost buy the player outright!
-
Viduka is currently doing what he does best, being injured, as he did for too much of the season just gone, and it wouldn't be a big gamble to say they same is going to happen in the following season. So shifting him is a bit of a problem, especially since he's on obscene wages (apparently) So my question is: What do you think we should do with him? A: Keep him, 1st team when fit B: Get a younger replacement and have them battle for next season C: Sell him for as much as we can D: Give him away for free and get rid of £3-4m (apparently) a year off the wage bill I can't see the club taken up the 3rd year option so in 12 months he's gone imo. Is he worth keeping for 12 months? Personally i say no, i'd try and sell him of course, but if we could simply offload him for nothing i'd take that option in an instant.
-
Off the top of my head its around £100-150k a year. Though i'm trying to think back years since they've been getting paid.

You know that how? Could the lad not just be good enough?
