This am not getting. Why did we pay up his remainder of his contract if he resigned? Surely that means he was sacked?

Actually not as bad this time round as per usual. All of the fukwits are heading down Whitley Bay

I just want to say thanks to a guy who took on the most difficult job in the world at one of the worst times to do it, especially since it was his 1st, 1st team managerial job since suffering ill health. He may not of set the world a light, but he did see us through a rough season, even for the very best this would of been tough, he'll never face anything more difficult than what he had to put up with this season, but i'm glad he's gone, he was never good enough and was always waiting to be sacked. Good luck in the future GR.

SBR has been at home games for most of this year.

He'll do what he did last season. We have SSN camped outside SJP all day waiting for news. Shepherd will go in early and it will fuel speculation. Roeder will arrive like Souness and Murray did late in the day and SSN will start to jump up and down with excitement that they've got a story. Five minutes later Roeder will re-emerge and tell David Craig the reporter that he's still got his job and SSN will come back after the break to tell everyone that they got it wrong and that Roeder is safe. Remember someone not being able to open the doors properly, who was it again, FS or Souness?

The replacement is more important than the timing of any sacking. Equally as important, as well as the right backing from the board. All these issues need to be spot on in this day and age to give a manager the best leg up. Usually a manager will get time to settle so its not so important when they come in and you'd be right, but with the EPL so fast paced, so demanding, a string of poor results can see a safe manager knocked off his perch without warning, and now managers get less time to get it right, especially at Newcastle. I think we'd all breath a sigh of relief if GR goes in May, the board give the new manager £20m+ whatever he brings in. I know you don't want him, but i think its nailed on Sam is coming here, if not do you really trust FS to bring in someone better? Can't agree mate. If you get the right man you'll do ok. Robson was appointed at roughly the same stage of the season as Souness, for example. Obviously it would be great to get the timing spot on too but sacking Roeder today and appointing another plank like Souness wouldn't do anything positive. The manager is the most important person at the club, getting the right man in no matter what the timing is of paramount importance imo. Depends on which club. This club, it needs quick fixes and long term goals from the off, or you don't stand a chance. SBR had that, i'm also sure he didn't have transfer windows to work around and was able to sign players (Gallagher) as soon as he got in the seat. If we sack GR in September after spending £20m, then bringing in a new manager, were just putting ourselves further in trouble long term, and for the short term who knows what would happen that season. Your right i suppose getting the right man is crucial, but if we do our usual 5 games in trick, were fuked. That's a good point about the transfer window system, things are different now. Personally, I wouldn't entertain giving Roeder another £20m to spend, which is getting back to what I said during the first transfer window under Souness. I'd already seen enough to tell me he wasn't going to be the right man so giving him money wasn't the right thing to do. The same now applies to Roeder. He has to go, tbh. After yesterdays game there is no way he'll be in charge next season, so that takes care of the why, I'm sure i'll get my wish of the when in the summer, it just remains the who, and it looks ever more likely to be SA than anyone else right now. Its a step above Souness & Roeder, this job could make him an even better manager, in fact its the next logical step for him, he's not going backwards in his career, and is on the up. This job is a big one, but he's big enough shoulders to carry it, it just remains to be seen whether he'll want to try and change his philosophy slightly and become a creative manager, but even if he doesn't and we play shite football every week and win 1-0, i couldn't give a monkey's right now, Chelsea & Liverpool have been doing it for years and they've won everything between them.

Why the '-' ? Could he not remember his name or something? Or he just took a muffin while he was speaking. Or a rack of lamb, am sure he can squeeze a few of them in mid word.

i'm not trying to start an argument with you here pal but you're kind of missing the point i was asking a question about allardyce that you've ignored - in 10 years at a club he's not really brought any youngsters through has he? certainly not what you'd expect for that amount of time...is that what we want? i'm not saying all of the kids should automatically play but when they have played this season by and large they've held their own despite obviously having little in the way of coaching or help from senior professionals.... the fact is that whoever takes over the club will have a good group of bairns in and around the squad and i'm asking is allardyce the man to handle that? i'm not saying he is or isn't just asking for more than "With Allardyce, if a youngster is good enough, he'll get to play, but if he isn't good enough he's gone." what evidence do you have to back that up like? how do you know he never held up the development of a bairn to bring in one of his "foreign bargains" we hear so much about? maybe you know the ins and outs of his time at bolton, if so do tell... Hunt and Nolan? Two players who have come through and been significantly better than any player who has come through at newcastle in the past ten years. What players have left Bolton and gone onto greater things? - None, sure looks like Allardyce knows what he is doing. We must not also forget that we can afford to spend ten-fold more on our academy than Bolton have been able to. Please, don't be daft.

Been saying he's looking ill for the last few month, he's about half the size he was when he was manager of us. I pray to god he makes it through, but 5 times, its taking its toll each time imo.

http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1780_2109863,00.html Sir Bobby vows to 'fight' cancer Former England and Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson has been diagnosed with cancer for the fifth time - and has vowed to 'fight it'. The 74-year-old has battled the disease on and off for the last 15 years, having undergone cancer surgery four times. He told the Mail on Sunday he started a six-week course of chemotherapy treatment last week after doctors discovered small cancerous nodules in his lungs. Sir Bobby has vowed to carry on with his life as normal and will attend his annual charity golf day in Portugal next week before celebrating his 52nd wedding anniversary next month with wife Elsie. He told the newspaper: "Of course, it's not the greatest news I've ever had but I have fought hard throughout my life and I will continue to fight. I will battle as I've always done. "My last operation in August was a success but this time the doctors have said they can't operate. "The good news is that they are measuring the nodules in my lungs in millimetres rather than centimetres! "That is encouraging and we are hopeful the treatment will keep it under control. "I've been advised to keep busy and active, and that's what I will be trying to do whenever possible." Sir Bobby, the son of a Durham minder, was knighted in 2001 after a glittering football career as a player and manager. He won 20 England caps, playing in the 1958 and 1962 World Cups, before taking the team to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup in an eight-year spell as the national manager. He made his name as a manager at Ipswich, winning the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981. After leaving the England job in 1990 Sir Bobby then managed a string of top European clubs including PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona.

Am I the only one who can't figure out if this guy it taking the piss or not?? ;D I am not taking the mick........ I can understand why you think that I might have been because I have been a little bit overly complimentary about the Toon. But, I think I'm saying it as it is. I would hope that Sidwell wants to leave Reading to further his ambitions and he is not looking to leave us only for the money. Therefore, if he joined any of the big 4 teams, I wouldn't mind. Realistically though none of them would have him because he is not as good as Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, Fabregas etc. Sidwell is not a top 4 midfielder. I would be annoyed if he went to the likes of Citeh, Villa, Middlesborough, Everton etc. Because that would look like he is only interested in cash. Therefore, the only club that Sidwell can realistically join and that Reading fans won't mind so much is Newcastle. Because you can't dispute that Newcastle is a massive club and by joining the Toon it would greatly enhance Sidwells England credentials. Going anywhere else wouldn't and it would look like he is only wanting money. Alot of Reading fans are suspicious that Sid is being a greedy boy. Therefore I want him to go to Newcastle because Newcastle is a massive club. When Reading expand the Madejski to 40,000 - Our ground will be as big as Boro, Everton, Villa and nearly as big as City. But one club who is simply massive is Newcastle. The biggest clubs in England are United, Liverpool, Arsenal & Newcastle. I don't think Chelsea is that big really. Plus, even though we lost, my favourite away trip all season was to St James Park. It is the best away venue in the country. No where is better than St James. The place looked even more spectacular than Old Trafford. Maybe because we were about a mile up into the skies and the high heavens but a full St James park is really spectacular. Town Centre ground, loads of bars/pubs - Massive support - Just a great place. United based in Salford just didn't do it for me. There were more United fans in the services going up the M40 than Reading fans..... The whole place didn't look genuine. Full of glory hunters. Chelsea is full of plastics. Arsenal are full of well off Londoners. For me the biggest proper/genuine football club in England is Newcastle. Londons biggest proper club is West Ham then Spurs. I like proper football clubs with proper fans and thats what Newcastle is. I honestly think you like our club more than we do right now!

am not seeing it.

I'd take him for £3m, but not under GR as he'd take the piss out of him. I think his next club Barton wont take the piss out of quite so much either, he gets away with murder at City, and he always pushes them as he's not arsed about leaving due to the crap football and poor league positions he's suffered in the last few seasons. Big Sam would give him a shake.

and you believe the Sun? Well it hasn't come out or Northern Gimps mouth so i doubt its true, friends everywhere etc...

Tbh they didnt move from there chairs all 2nd half, We were getting dominated yet Roeder didnt have a clue how to change things. Aye, as far as I'm concerned, Roeder has two touchline poses. Sat on a seat not knowing what the fuck to do, or standing with his hands in his pockets not knowing what the fuck to do. I suppose at least Pearson's lying down shows he has a bit more variety in his not knowing what the fuck to do poses.

Its made me hate the world tbh.

Well they do say no stone is left unturned with him and nothing is left to chance. He could be very good for this club, the only realistic hope i've got for us right now for next season and the near future.
