  1. Drenthe - Good technique and ball delivery, but doesn't have the power, urgency or sense of purpose to make it in the Premiership. Zoggy (2005/06) is better at both full back and left wing. Rigters - Unimpressive. Couldn't do anything whilst marked by a decent Premiership defender. Babel - Good on and off the ball, and has some power and urgency, though plays very deep. Not what we are looking for right now, but he could do well at the right Premiership club, which we aren't right now.
  2. Every English player scored a penalty and we still lost. Anyone get the impression that someone up there doesn't want either England or Holland to win a penalty shootout?
  3. What do you think now Toon's Taylor, now that Taylor is doing what he is doing?
  4. Was out last Thursday. Check it out at: www.nufc.com It is against the rules to post the fixtures on here.
  5. ...that Allardyce plans to build the spine of his future Newcastle team around Steven Taylor, as highlighted with numerous quotes from Allardyce and Taylor since Sam was appointed. Is this a good move, or is Taylor overrated because he is a Geordie?
  6. Nonsense tbf. Not sure that is the case to be honest, I'd read somwhere that yellow and red shirted clubs had the greatest success, and white, grey and black the least. May just be coincidence, but with a manager willing to try anything to increase the odds of success, don't rule out Allardyce taking such a step himself, after all, Bolton switched from a black second strip to a yellow second strip, and a red third strip. Bolton play in a plain kit. They need an away kit they can actually use. We have an away kit more as a token gesture tbh, it gets used about twice a season. We can wear whatever kit we want as long as we register it, and use each kit a minimum amount of time. I doubt Allardyce had any input in that kit even if he wanted to, but in future, I would look to create an away kit that could create a visual advantage in some situations.
  7. Why would they want to replace Ryan Taylor? He is a canny player. Perhaps he is on his way out?

  9. I reckon for an away kit you need a nice bright colour that will stand out, thus improving our performances in some games where a black and white shirt may not be so visible from distance.
  10. Rozehnal is also a defensive midfielder. Sam Allardyce has been known to like a player equally adept at the DM and CB positions.

    Beckham

Didn't Allardyce personally write that though in his Zoo column Dave?

    January

Clubs don't sell good players in January, so if someone activates Owen's release clause we will be a bit short. All good players will be coming in this summer and next summer.
  13. You can tell when Newcastle are on the up because Nut writes a song for each individual signing.

    David Rozehnal

I haven't really much knowledge of Rozehnal as an individual, only that he is part of an excellent Czech back four, in a team which value teamwork and work ethic. The Czechs are a Boltonesque side as such, and the hope would be that Rozehnal is being signed to become part of a well drilled unit, as seen with Bolton and the Czech Republic.
  15. Off topic, Morten Gamst really hates being called Pedersen, and has requested this stops. Basically his father walked out on him or something, so doesn't like to use the name as it is not where he came from.
  16. I can see where you and others are getting at with Doyle, but I think Shorey shaded it due to the fact that he didn't fade away in the second half of the season. However football is all opinions.
  17. Name another that is not Giggs/Ronaldo, based on last season's form, that were better than Bentley/Gamst Why only last season? Was that when the PL was formed or something? Because the past doesn't really matter, the present does.
  18. Name another that is not Giggs/Ronaldo, based on last season's form, that were better than Bentley/Gamst
  19. Who in your opinion, is the best player at each club? Also, if a squad was created from all Premiership clubs (plus promoted/relegated), how would it fare in this league? In my opinion: Arsenal - Thierry Henry Wasn't at the peak of his powers last season, but the youngsters are yet to usurp him Aston Villa - Gareth Barry Most important player at Villa last season. Without his contribution, they'd be in serious trouble last season. Birmingham - Maik Taylor Not much proven Premiership quality at Brum as of yet, although Taylor has done pretty well in the past. Blackburn Rovers - David Bentley McCarthy gets the goals, but he is helped by the second best winger combo in the Premiership, of which Bentley is the best of the two. Bolton - Jussi Jaaskelainen A few good players at Bolton, but Jussi just pips Anelka and Diouf for me. Charlton - Darren Bent Only player that performed for Charlton last season. Chelsea - John Terry Clearly the most influential player at Chelsea as shown by Chelsea's form while he was injured. Derby - Giles Barnes Don't know too much of Derby to be honest, but Barnes has caught the eye in the past with his pace and work rate. Everton - Mikel Arteta One of the most technically gifted players in the Premiership. Pulls all the strings at Everton. A brilliant player. Fulham - Franck Queudrue The only player to turn up in many matches for Fulham last season. Liverpool - Steven Gerrard No other player has single-handedly won two cup finals. Liverpool still can't escape those one-player-club remarks Manchester City - Micah Richards One of just four players to do alright at Man City last season. Barton is now at Newcastle, Distin is at Portsmouth, and Richards should have a much better future than Dunne. Manchester United - Cristiano Ronaldo Head and shoulders above an excellent squad. Middlesborough - Jonathan Woodgate We've all seen his quality, and with Viduka gone, there is nobody to contest him. Newcastle United - Shay Given It is hard to describe a player who has played 13 games in two seasons as our best player, thus Shay must get the nod for now. Portsmouth - Sol Campbell Showed his quality at Portsmouth. Could be at a much better club if he wanted to be. Reading - Nicky Shorey Reading introduced four very good players last season, but I judge Shorey as currently the most polished of the three that remain. Sheffield United - Phil Jagielka Handy and average player, which is better than the general poorness Sheffield churned out last season Sunderland - Carlos Edwards This guy has impressed me when playing for bith Luton and Mackems. Tottenham Hotspur - Dimitar Berbatov Excellent technique for a striker, plus many well rounded attributes associated with a British centre-forward. West Ham - Carlitos Tevez Looked head and shoulders above his teammates last season. Wigan - Leighton Baines Best player left at a deteriorating Wigan side. Watford - Hameur Bouazza Did pretty well for Watford I thought, although Foster was their best player last season. That would mean a squad of: Given, Jaaskelainen, Taylor Richards, Jagielka, Terry, Woodgate, Campbell, Baines, Shorey, Queudrue Ronaldo, Edwards, Bentley, Gerrard, Barnes, Arteta, Barry Bouazza, Tevez, Berbatov, Henry, Bent And the first eleven would be: Given Richards Terry Woodgate Baines Ronaldo Gerrard Arteta Bentley Berbatov Tevez Thus the squad would be extremely capable, although undersubscribed/oversubscribed in some areas, although obviously this kind of scenario wouldn't happen in real life. Definitely a top 5 side though at least.
  20. What do you think? You are not being mean?

    Bung Clubs are Named

Club Statement on Official Site requests that the agents start to cooperate, as we've done nothing wrong.

    Bung Clubs are Named

New board, new management. We'll get off pretty lightly.
  23. The good news is that Allardyce got wind of what was happenning and announced his intentions, quickly side-tracking any real dissappointment. Remember when Roeder scouted Kuyt AFTER he had signed for Liverpool?
  24. Greg posted something in another thread, and though it doesn't name us specifically, it would definitely apply for us due to geography.
  25. TOUGH F*CKING SH!T I know its rubbish really. In addition, Tyneside police now request that we don't play Sunderland, Middlesborough or Man Utd, whoare pretty muc the only teams who havent blacklisted us. Thus we play away.
