Would be nice to think there is something in talk of getting Diarra. Granted I know feck all about him but would show our intent of being in the market for an athletic DM, which opens the door for me hoping for Appiah! Rozehnal can play DM so Id be suprised to see us buying one. Maybe we will put a few offers on the table for players once the defence is sorted. Then if they come off, good, if not no huge deal. Need to get to that comfort zone by signing at least another player in every position along the back.

We will soon find out we were never in for him to begin with.

    Luke Young

If he was our second choice RB though, then it would be a good move. Carr sold/released/part of the Young deal, Solano as backup to the right wing, and Taylor placed firmly in the centre, where he needs to be, it would be criminal to move him there and should be avoided at all costs. Plus another RB, Sagna or another £5m+ player. Same goes for the LB position, we need that at a minimum next season if we are to be taken seriously. (That's not to mention another 2/3 CB's) 2nd choice? how many players do you think he's going to sign, he already needs i'd say 3 center halfs not to mention a left back and that's not even discussing midfield and forward players. I could handle him as back up, whilst he isnt great he is at least an honest player/pro. Would be nice to think we will buy two LB's and two RB's but I think the latter certainly wont happen whilst Carr remains, Taylor and Ramage have played there and Solano excelled. If we are going for two fullbacks for each side, that means we have money, which also means why bother getting average, buy decent quality or young and hungry for back up.
  4. Which ever way you look at it, its win win. Luque will have no excuses now, we couldnt off load him, if we did it would have been a huge loss. So he either finally works for us or claws some kind of credibility back or we sell him later for more of less the pitance we would get for him now.

    Luke Young

Maybe I watch a different Luke Young to everyone else. I just really dont rate him at all. Its all very well saying he would be an improvement on Carr, but Taylor would be better cover defensively at RB and Solano is better than Young going forward. We need to be aiming higher imo its virtually as much of a priority as LB, although at least we have basic cover there. Whilst we need to spend on CB's aswell Id be happier to get one decent CB, and spend less on the other two if we can get a better LB and RB. It will make a huge difference.
  6. Think he was probably backup if we missed out on Viduka. Think Roeder was tracking him aswell.
  7. I think the more pressing issue is whether or not Martins will miss the start of the season. High possibility of Oba's mum grounding him indefinately for sneaking out of the house and getting into hijinx with guns when he was supposed to be in bed.
  8. Poor mans Gudjohnsen. Would take him here, especially at that price. But.. A) its bollocks B) as mentioned why would he swap bench at the league champions to similar here, I cant see him fitting in much better than what we have in midfield. C)Id start Shola ahead of him.

We might aswell play Taylor at RB, he isnt any worse than Young. Maybe he would be better than he has been the last 5 years if he came up here, but Im certain we can get better than Young. Carr really isnt that much worse.
  10. Push him off a bridge over a motorway.

Good god, I guess its getting to the time the fat man comes out and denies we have ever heard of him. This is even more stupid than Emerton.
  12. He has more chance of winning us a trophy than getting Luque to play well. But Im delighted by this news, I think he talks about N'Zogbia aswell. This should effectively end any need to bring in another striker/cover for duff.
  13. well thats a bit like saying your brother offering his opinions on your ex, then his ex rounding on him. or Souness slating Keegan, and Keegan rounding on Andy Cole. More people will always side with Shearer because the sun shines out of his golden plated buttocks at this club and he is still part of the club for some people. I have little time for Bellamy so I wouldnt turn my nose up, but quite agree about the double standards.
  14. Anyone been watching it? Just watch Canada get completely shafted against the states. Scored an equaliser after it came off a defender putting their striker through only for it to be ruled out for offside. Arguable he was offside to begin with. Some pretty shocking play from both sides overall. But entertaining enough for filling time. The winner of the competition automatically qualifies for the Confederation Cup, either USA or Mexico now. Guadeloupe did pretty well in getting to the semis, not bad for a providence of France. Certainly looking forward to seeing Edgar hopefully progress through in a couple of years, the Canadian team along with it.
  15. 5 Thats a shame think, all those talented players we are going to miss out on... More than not the squad would have been English anyways. 5? though the republic were their own in the olympics.
  16. Wow Rozehnal could yet end up at SJP!
  17. Giving Taylor the Armband would be even more foolish than it was giving it to Parker. Its the last thing he needs, not to mention the extra abusive amunition it gives to those polishing their specially bought weapons. If Owen had even an ounce of interest in staying here I would consider him, but from what we have, its Butt, Solano or Given. Out of them Solano for me, whilst he might be the least disciplined he is the loudest on the pitch. I still hope we will bring someone new in for that job, but we shall see.
  18. you will come home with your face and shirt looking more like the mackems then ours. Provided they find someone that can punch to hit you for them of course. My mate went to see us Vs the scum a few years back, thought it would be fine sitting in the Sunderland end, as they were the only tickets he could get. Of course he didnt wear his strip, but when Dabizas scored he almost couldnt control himself, was just about to jump up when someone a few rows in front with the same idea beat him too it, well he got half way up in the air before a fist had beat him to it!
  19. Yeah, get them every manager in the studio and have the panel grill them one by one, followed by unedited questions from the fans. Lets cut out the middle man.
  20. 5/6m tops would be as much as Id want to pay, even thats too much really. Just shows how good a deal Everton got in Lescott, who Id rate as a better player, although few would have warmed to us scouting him this time last year. Myself included.
  21. Unlikely. Can see him being "better than John Terry" wearing a spurs shirt next season.

Hard to keep deals in the quiet these days. In this case PSG and Rozehnals agent were more than happy to make it public so they would drive up the transfer fee and interest. The best way is to set the standard and walk away from the deal if they make it public. But I guess Big Sam doesnt want to be losing any more of his targets If he can. Mad how long this thread is! its the stupid part of the year where the majority of fans could care less whether its Gerrard or Ron Jeremys they are so crazed for signings.
  23. When you have that kind of money, you can get away with anything! No chance Owen will want to work under Sven again. Didnt Sven get taped slagging Owen off and saying Owen had told him he didnt want to be at Newcastle and only came for the money? Some tabloid scam. I guess if I was a Man City fan I couldnt complain about getting Sven, but on the other hand I would be pretty dissapointed, considering the names already mentioned. Sven has been out of the club circuit a while, he should be fine with having money to spend though. The main reason I wouldnt have wanted him here though would have been his lack of Passion. Whilst City fans have had their fill of touchline passion from Pearce and his daugters beanie, having slimy sven sit there and do nothing when they are losing will soon boil piss. Whilst the likes of Spectrum and a couple of my man city supporting mates are decent fans, a large preportion of the support is as fickle as they come. The abuse Danny Mills got 15/20 minutes into the game for firing the ball out of play when two of our players were down injured was insane. They booed him for the rest of the game because he did it twice. He didnt even play bad! Then there was the Joey Barton affair the season before last where he was the most hated man in Manchester, booed and jeered at every time he had the ball, until he set up their first goal and they loved him again. After he scored later on I swear they were denying there was ever a previous problem! The majority of teams have an increasingly impatient and fickle set of fans though. Ours is getting no different.
  24. Speeds was always touted as becoming a coach (and a good one) by SBR, Shearer, other managers and people within and around the club. Lots of stories have eminated from that. Cant remember anyone being so complimentary about Ferdinand though. Never heard anyone banging on about him in the press other than himself. Doesnt come across as someone that will set the coaching world alight to me, just from what I have seen from him talking. But only people that have spent time with him would be able to comment properly, and im certainly not one of those.
  25. They have gone to great lengths to make Joey Barton feel at home.
