  1. I fucking hate 'Boro. Had Arsenal, Everton, Portsmouth, Norwich, Sheff Utd & Aberdeen. Only for £43 returns, but ffs! I though Marlon King had been locked up, absolute twat. Late goals pissing me off. My last bet that I remember was Burnley vs Spurs. Had Blake FS, Burnley 2-0, then they scored their 3rd with about 2 mins left on the clock. Argh!
  2. Just need Watford to win tonight to win £18. On an acca with Wolves, Leicester and Doncaster. I really need a win soon as well. on a terrible losing streak at the mo. Good job I only ever bet £1 a time on my accas otherwise I'd be skint.
  3. Almunia/Given Scharner/Jagielka/Alex/Knight/Kaboul Young/Valencia/Arteta/Anderson/McCann Torres/Tuncay/Agbonlahor Cant even remember how I did last year, stopped looking after about half the season gone. Hopefully will stick with it to see myself receive the wooden spoon this year.

    Today's other games

Shockingly, it's probably cheaper to go to buy a ticket and travel to Germany, than it would have been to buy a ticket and travel to London. Given the way prices in England are.
  5. Can't understand how that can be the most disappointing - you'd already been down for months. I thought the glee when you scored against us in that game was quite funny - the worst team the top division has ever seen and you lot were celebrating like you'd won the league just because you scored against Newcastle. To some of you the highlight of your miserable season was seeing Shearer limp off in that game. Sad. Yes, and unfortunatley from around January, that game was our season. 1 game to at least have something to hit back with when Newcastle fans ripped the piss out of our woeful season, 1 game to at least look back on with a little bit a pride. And after the first half we looked like we were going to get it. And then to capitulate like we did in a local derby was gutting, especially considering we weren't often in trouble till Chopra came on. Extremely sad I know, but that sums up how bad that season was. And as for Shearer, I was non-plussed by his injury. His last ever goal, a penalty against Sunderland. Don't think he could have asked for anything more. Was only 1, but I am informed that it was a truly dismal performance. The Sunderland way that though, blow it when you have a chance of a bit of glory.
  6. It's a tough choice but a few stand out: Sunderland 0-1 Southampton 96/97. We played 4-5-1 in a must win game at home, Southampton hardly had to break sweat after taking the lead. Terrible. Sunderland 0-1 Millwall FA Cup Semi 03/04 Tim Cahill, what a twat. The best draw possible. A fellow Championship side. 90 minutes from an FA Cup Final apperance and European football at the SoL. What happens? We gift Millwall the only goal of the game, don't play well McAteer gets sent off, and McCartney misses an absolute sitter from about 5 yards late on. Gutted, I don't think Sunderland will get closer to an FA Cup Final for a while yet. Sunderland 0-1 Everton 05/06 Tim Cahill, what a twat (again). Being honest, this game was only dissapointing due to the result. We outplayed Everton and had many chances to win the game, yet as per that season failed to score. And then Cahill pops up in injury time to score the winner. In a game against a relegation rival (at the time) it was a sucker punch. I think Everton went on a long unbeaten run following that game. Sunderland 1-4 Newcastle 05/06 Jammy sods. Nowt else to say being honest, just can't believe we lost that game let alone by that score.
  7. Schmeichel would be in there, if it were not for the fact that he can't deal with corners. He fails to come for them and is happy to just let them go right across his 6 yard box, which has led to quite a few opportunities for opposition teams. Other than that, however, he is showing signs of becoming a very good keeper. Roque Santa Cruz has also impressed me along with John Utaka. While Gael Clichy seems to have improved a bit.
  8. Was a quite funny tv show, a few years back. Btw, Ian Harte didn't play last night as he didn't have international clearance. He was on the teamsheet and hes on nufc official websites mackem line-up Maybe there was confusion, as the plan was for him to play, but the papers failed to come through on time. Not that I really care tbh.

  10. Watch Falkirk's next game and see why, it's like a team of Bramble's Krul was absolutely shocking for Rangers 6th goal. Didn't exactly cover himself in glory with the some of the other goals either. Just read the scotish sun report, they gave him 6/10 and said he was helpless in the goals and made 2 excellent saves... I saw the highlights on setanta earlier today, and I thought he was poor for nearly every goal Falkirk conceded. However, he wasn't exactly helped by a poor defensive display. That said he's young and still got years to improve before he gets anywhere near his prime. As there were so many goals, that was all they showed so I don't know about what else he did in the game. Anyone really interested can click on the Rangers - Falkirk link to see the highlights here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/default.stm Sunderland's loanee at Falkirk meanwhile scored a cracker. Arnau, quality goal.
  11. Without doubt. Need a left winger, and Jagielka should do a good job for them as well. A better keeper as well, if we're being picky, but Howard is no slouch. Well they've just signed a 'keeper, Stefan Wessels. Never heard of him, so don't know how good he is though. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/e/everton/6957186.stm
  12. I believe that the board are currently spending what they believe they can make back, yeah, through tv money and Premiership safety. I do think they are giving Keane whatever he wants as they truely believe that he will keep us up. We are in a '5 year plan' apparently, but a year ahead so it now has to become a '4 year plan'. As relegation this season would put them behind Quinn schedule of being a recognised Premiership team within 5 years, so I believe as much money as possible is being spared to give us the best chance of staying up.
  13. Two words. Darren Fletcher. He isn't Championship class either. Decent Premiership player imo. I agree alex. Players like Richardson and Fletcher may not be good enough for regular games at Man Utd when they are at full strength, but it doesn't mean they aren't Premiership class. Both Fletcher and Richardson are definatley good enough for middle of the road Premiership teams in my opinion.
  14. Possibly... I'm not 100% sure yet though.
  15. Nope, Richardson is Championship class as well. I did say possible. You don;'t play for Man Utd at least 50 times without having something about you. Plus he was one of the main reasons WBA stayed up a few years back. He is better than the rest of our players, and while he may not be 'top' Premiership class, he is better than Championship class as well. He's probably the sort of player who will suit a team in the bottom third of the Premiership, due to his ability, in my opinion. And so therefore, the only real reason to complain about his signing is the inflated transfer fee. But he's English and has 8 caps which would put most peoples prices through the roof in the current transfer climate. Although his passing has been a bit suspect at times in pre-season.
  16. Sniffed around but there was nothing concrete I believe. For me only Derby are really weaker than Sunderland on paper. For me Wigan and Brimingham's attacking options are better than ours, while I reckon the likes of Fulham and Boro have stronger defences than us. However as I've mentioned before, in my opinion any other season and this team would be a cert for relegation. But this year we seem to be in luck at just how poor the teams I expect to see around us are. And so I do believe there is still chance but I just think that we have a Championship class squad, with the possible exceptions of Richardson and Gordon). I do agree, riches, that investment in January could be vital and I think we are in the fortunate position o having a board that does seem willing to plough cash into transfers.
  17. Basically I agree with this. He will be away at the end of the season anyway once we've gone down. Isn't he like one of the most expensive goalkeeper transfers ever? Prem record isn't it? When fully paid up it will be the Premiership record. I believe Barthez currently is at around £8.5M
  18. Well, from what I've seen of him (not much, tbh) he is better than what we have, but I can't agree that he's one of the top five in the world. He's been playing against SPL strikers his whole career (Other than Internationals for Scotland), and while that doesn't mean he isn't world class, he's still got to face better strikers nearly every week now. £7M upfront (BBC) is unbelieveable for 1 person ( but I can't believe many fees for people just because they can kick a ball (can you tell I've become disillusioned with the game?)) , just because they can throw their body in the way of a moving ball ( ) let alone it rising to £9M. Basically I agree with this. He will be away at the end of the season anyway once we've gone down.
  19. I'd actually be happy about that deal. I was dissapointed when Birmingham got him last season. For me Cole has exactly what Sunderland need. Experience and a knack for scoring goals. 188 goals in the Premership is a fantastic record. Indeed it is, but that was quite a long time ago, wasn't it? I guess it depends how he is going to be used. If as back up for when you need to stick a body up front, then yes it makes sense. If as any more than that then, hmmmmm.... I'm hopeful that he would replace the woeful Stern John, as our 3rd/4th striker, as had we had Cole on the pitch instead of John in pre-season, I'm certain he would have had a hatfull given the amount of sitters John missed. I'd also hope he could help bring on some of the younger strikers at the club. Apparently, we are also after Mido now, which would bolster our attacking options if he could contain his temprement. As he can be a good player when he's fully focused.

  21. Ha, no they're not. He's ours now: http://www.safc.com/news/?page_id=12773 Relegation here we come.
  22. It's a wierd one, I can see where Quinn is coming from in that, now, transfer fees are verging on the rediculous for even the average player. And I do feel that West Ham bidding anything for anyone who can kick a ball has had some affect, but there has been a steady rise over the past few seasons, where the likes over Chelsea have massively overspent. The recent influx of yet more Sky money and new investment was always going to drive up prices again, as more people want 'a bigger slice of the pie'. And so they will spens more money to get average players after their agents have overstated their case to make them seem better than they are, to also get a bigger wedge. I can't help but think that Quinn has come into this season very niavely, about what he expected money wise. We've seemingly tried to go cheap (more than one bid for Nugent, Gordon and Baines points to this) and then all of a sudden seemingly paniced and gone and splashed £5M on a below average striker at this level. And then gone and spent £5.5M on Richardson. Players who just a few years ago wouldn't have sold for more than £3M at an absolute maximum. This makes Quinn look stupid in what he says while at the same time he is saying how many people see the sitiuation. Unfortunately for Quinn he can't have it both ways, and he should learn to keep his mouth shut.
  23. That's true played against Berwick last night, we also had a lad from Horden CW playing for us (he scored as well apparently) on trial. The SMB is almost in meltdown over the Baines story like. While I'm dissapointed that he won't be coming, I can't say I ever expected him to sign.
  24. this disgusting kit only going to be used for pre-season isnt it? Aye, that's what it said on the website.
  25. Cracking post. Much better look at things than you get from a lot of our fans, some of whom do think Europe is attainable goal.
