I rate Ferran highly, one of my favorite type of players. Seems cheap, that price for how good he is.

100% this. A guy who set up a winning structure within the England setup and built this very modern structure within the restrictions that Brighton has - give him a bigger budget and the remit to emulate the very best clubs in the world. But hey since he wasn't already plucked by Monaco or City or Liverpool he must just be underwhelming. You can only judge him on his CV (if you read the details of what he did for England and Brighton) you'd judge that he has performed quite well for his job.

Kamara is apparently astute at CB too?

Based off what I read, I see a bright and intelligent man who's modern thinking, set up some fantastic structures at the international level with England and at Brighton for the last few years. Those articles are exciting. Give this guy a real competitive budget and see what he can do.

Rondon's overall game is better than Wilson's. Wilson is the better striker in the box - simple as that. Would have loved a front-two of Wilson and Rondon. Would be sensational tbh.

2 new fullbacks. 2 new CBs. 2 new CMs (1 defensive, 1 attacking), winger, CF backup.

Dummett has to play LB until we hopefully sign a proper one in Jan. I'd honeslty rather he just take up coaching after this - if what Rafa has said about him carries weight - it's that Dummett is a really smart footballer who could go on and be a great manager.

I'm really not sure any level of detailed Rafa-like drilling is going to get Lascelles or Clark to play proper PL quality football anymore. They are simply just not good enough anymore and have digressed massively since Rafa left. Very similar extent to Fab Schar, who really became a player only under Rafa in his career and of course has had a great international career (paired with better partners, midfielders). Same goes with Fede, who has always been a pretty good defender his entire career.

Don’t even engage mate. Nobody has 100% success rates. Nobody.

Seriously - stop harping back to Rafa’s period here. That was years ago, the players since then have aged, been injured, and have had over 2 years of bad coaching under Bruce. No back 5 could have prevented the individual mistakes from today’s defenders and most of the games this season. We’ve had no proper investment in our defenders for years and we’ve sold off the best CB we’ve had since Colo. But again please use the old Rafa adage.

Not sure how he can organize a defense with the quality this bad and the injuries we have too. But go on. Tell me what he could do differently. Krafth and hurt Schar in? Same score line.

I love him to bits. But many games this season he’s getting the ball and running at defenders and he either holds too long and doesn’t play it to a runner or he’s getting the ball caught in his feet and not shooting or passing. frustrating as it was multiple times today - Just be intentional and decisive ffs. One or the other.

The majority of goals we’ve conceded under Howe have been individual errors. Some of them standard, the others howlers.

Id say the defenders then was better - younger and less injuries than they’ve got now. Same goes with most of the squad still playing - all were younger and better form. Jamaal was faster, did the simple stuff right. Clark was effective. Schar was shit hot. Lejeune was next level. Fede solid. Hayden was decent. Diame was awesome at the end. Merino was class. Longstaff was coming on. winning the Rafa way worked out with them because Rafa made these decent players better as a whole. But what I’m saying is these same players are really just not good anymore.

@ManDoon You can play ugly when your defenders don’t make mistakes like ours do each game. It’s not even coaching them anymore - it’s a pure quality issue. Age, injuries and being shite. If every single goal we conceded wasn’t a comedic school boy error id give these a benefit of the doubt. The squad is Shit. Proving each week there’s maybe 2-3 players max who stay here longer than 3 windows.

He’s rarely made the right decision when he needs to pass the ball in those situations. So yah he’s a bit crap in open play. Maybe it’s form? But it’s been really bad.
