I think we'd still fail to break teams down, hence why I'm still banging on about this "fantasy" land team, but it's painfully obvious we create very little, have a weak CM, and a weak back 4 (as a collective).

Maybe but no offence but that's kind of fairytale stuff that is never going to happen. That's 5 really good players we'd have to add and that's without even getting someone instead of Colo I'm simply stating the only way things will start working for us is if we do that. I don't believe we'll be doing that. I believe we're going to struggle all season.

Sissoko is one of our best players and I really do love watching him destroy people on the counter, but I'm convinced the only way forward for our team is to build a midfield spine of Wijnladum + New CM/DM, Ayoze and Mitrovic up top, and 2 genuine real wingers with blistering pace to stretch and get beyond their fullbacks and deliver crosses to Mitrovic and Ayoze. This also includes adding a new LB to balance that left side as we are incredibly weak on that side right now.

Perez has more to his game. What we could really do with is a proper AM which is what I thought De Jong was. Seems like most regard him as a poacher good at making late runs similar to Nolan without appetite for tackling. Our Proper AM is Wijnaldum. Who should be central with a destroyer if we are going to go with this system - someone with the legs to be able to cover the width of the pitch relatively well and be able to contribute in attack. A position we shouldn't be buying cheap, one that probably needs the amount we paid for Thauvin, a 23-26 year old DCM/CM with strength, pace, and technical ability. We also then need to fix our left side to make this all work and that's signing a legit LW and LB. Sounds about right, although I would say for a CM/DM role, it's so important that it's not necessary to stick to an age ceiling of 26 yr old. Gareth Barry must be getting on, but he's still better than anything we've got in that part of the pitch. There's so much money in the game at the moment that it's daft to look at sell on potential in every single position, especially CM and CB. Aye you're right, the age bracket was my ideal scenario - but yes, any good and reliable DM from 19-32 would do for us. But obviously our powers at be have an issue with signing anyone older than 27-28.

We aren't as cutthroat and ruthless in attack as we need to be. We also don't create nearly enough chances, more half chances than anything. Our service into the box is heavily dependent on Sissoko & Janmaat (to a lesser extent). Ayoze creation and linking up play is also crucial and his movement is brilliant. We will get better only when we get rid of the central pairing of 2 holders and have Wijnalum + partner and add real genuine wingers who can deliver the ball from the wide areas to our mountain of a CF.

As much as I like De Jong, I know he should be sold back to holland so he can salvage his career. Thauvin I'm willing to give time to but he's gotta earn it and I'm willing to give him time. We need another Mitrovic and another Perez second striker of varying talent. We need to stop buying #10 hybrids too

CB CM LB GK, backup RB and striker. Eventually need natural width as well with real wingers Mitro, Perez Wijnaldum + new CM, Mbemba + New CB + new GK need to be our spine come January. Add to that a left back. Eventually need to figure out a good pacy winger who is first team quality too.

Yes I don't disagree the playing style is far different. Steve is a good man, honest coach who works his Ass off. He cares I can tell. But, still think he's not good enough to get us out of this hole we are currently in.

Agree 100%. When he first joined he looked far quicker. He looks far slower and that ain't saying much I know. Ayoze' pace and guile is what sets him apart versus De Jong.
