Why would the club go out of its way to convince the fans they aren't going to be spending (the announcement, plus threatening the media for transfer stories) and then go out and start making fake bids for players? I know I keep asking this, but nobody ever answers

I doubt they'd make a middle ground counter offer if our offer was that far away.

Mid table La Liga side.

Seems to make it clear at least that we're not after a loan but a full transfer.

Really disappointed that Vuckic won't play, I always seem to miss the games he plays in. I think I've seen him play once for 20 minutes, I was looking forward to seeing him tonight.

What's he on and how many years left? We don't really know about his salary, there have been claims that its 50k, I just can't see that being the case He has another 3 years left on his contract.

If he has a stormer againt his old club (I know, unlikely ) all that can change.

Yeah, Cleverley could be a key signing. (I don't think there's anything in the Ben Arfa story) Whatever, he needs to avoid playing two big centre-forward types together, because the lack of pace and movement would kill us. There's clearly something in the Ben Arfa story, whether we get him or not. I'd rather have a good creative midfielder then a new striker, I'd love both of course

We must hope that Xisco comes around or Carroll turns into a top player. That is an atrocious strike force. Not one in there I trust. IMO Carroll has improved a lot during last season and we'll see that in the Premiership, not saying he's great, but he'll do ok IMO and can still get better.

Can't believe he's had that kind of reaction to a few comments about his weight, most people would just laugh it off.

So in other words, even if Ben Arfa prefers Newcastle, we'd have to match a bid by a club with bottomless funds if he wants that choice. Not going to happen. How do you get that from such jibberish? I don't get how people couldn't. 90% of that is understandable, and the blanks are easy to fill. I think you're filling in far too many blanks to come up with that translation. I don't see how. Yes, all of that is clear enough, what isn't at all clear from that is how much say the player will have in the move (especially if its a loan). Well Marseille have a say on which bids to accept or reject, and Ben Arfa has a right to sign for one club or another. But unless Ben Arfa is desperate to go to another club, one of the richest teams in the world, playing in the Bundesliga is always going to be in the lead. I certainly wouldn't argue with that.

Did they officially confirm this wage structure or was it just claimed in the media? Its total bollocks that's varied in the media from 20k to 25k to 30k and 35k.

Obviously they believe there's a decent chance of it happening though, I'm sure they wouldn't mention it so often otherwise.

Every club is that. Even the big clubs like are s*** as soon as they get some injuries. I reckon that the majority of the top 4's reserves could all make an impact on our first XI Probably true. But they can't make the same impact in their respectively first XI. Which is why I said that every club will have problems as soon as some injuries to some key players come around. Even our first XI is going to struggle to keep our necks above water. We need a full strength team for basically the whole season to have even half a chance of survival. It's a bit different to the difference between 3rd and 4th. I really think (and hope) we aren't that bad tbh. We are if we don't strengthen further, no doubt about it.. Bet you said something similar about the possibility of promotion last year.

Since when has Xisco been booed for being gay though? By the way, people take the piss out of Terry's sex life all the time online and even on TV.

One of our top earners?! From what I could guess, the only players earning more would be Barton, Coloccini, Smith, and Xisco. Barton and Smith are mistakes froma bygone era, Xisco will probaly be sold to the highest bidder (or any bidder), and only Colo has been a productive part of the club. From my estimation he would be the fifth highest earning player, which would make him one of our top earners. He would also be the highest paid signing under by Hughton by far. He would also be a 36 year old who managed to play 13 or so matches last year, which is not exactly a test of his durability. We'll have plenty of players on around 35k, and several on around twice that. So if that wage is correct he certainly won't be one of our top earners.

Revisionist historian?

They pulled out of the deal for Campbell before he signed for us because they got Bramble, oh and they weren't in for Gosling either apparently
