Must really not want another bet tipping ban
-
Typical smoke and mirrors from the club.
-
Yeah, that's my understanding, too. E.g. if his £45m was now down to £30m, a new 5 year contract would re-spread the £30m over the next 5 years i.e. from now on, £6m per year being deducted from our PSR 'allowance'.

Was thinking of making a similar post. It was joked about at the time, but I wouldn't put it past the gimp.
-
Pretty much as I recall then. Ashworth said something but it was equivocal in terms of what he meant, but it was actually Gordon that talked in terms of years with Howe.
-
Interesting, was he asked directly about this in the conference?
-
Bit late to give my opinion, but Mitchell looks like a very solid hire, by the way. I haven't got a strong view on it, but he's genuinely experienced, internationally travelled and has a record of significant success. You can't really argue with the board's choice, so pretty much whatever happens in the future, well done to them for making a strong move to push the club forward
-
Howe categorically spoke about following Gordon for a long time. I think I remember Ashworth making a remark, but my recollection is it seemed to refer more to how long the deal took to conclude. I don't remember anyone giving Ashworth giving credit for signing Gordon at the time. In fact, it would've been blame, given how it was seen at the time... Meanwhile, the documentary seemed to put Staveley front and centre in terms of negotiating the deal.
-
I think that's pretty much the case, yes.
-
Aye, would be fairly horrified if he was. The head of steam that's built up around his fitness ahead of anyone else we have is a bit bizarre.
-
The people replying seem elated
-
On a related note, I'd understand if they don't publicise it, but I wonder if the in-depth review of our fitness situation has concluded, and what the takeaways were.
-
Well, there is that... If we have another season like last time I'd like them to try training at a different location for a few months...
-
Don't want anyone getting too relaxed around here
-
Yeah, a number of times.

I agree with most of what you say. It's just this bit - I think we should be revisiting the phrase occasionally when it comes to assessing our board rather than the team. This week is a perfect example, actually. Is it a bugger that we've had major PSR troubles and had to chuck away some promising players? Definitely. Is it massively better than never having PSR issues because the club didn't give a shit? A thousand times yes.
-
Not aimed at you - or Miggy, who I like personally and no one should be callous to - but I think this phrase gets misused a lot. It was said at a time the club itself - i.e. the owner - had no intention of doing anything to win beyond existing and being profitable for him personally. But doing things to win will mean us moving on nice guys and try hards who don't cut the mustard. Jogging up and down a lot just to keep us in 16th was the problem, even if a lot of effort was getting spent in that process.
-
To be fair, I think this one is out of Eddie's hands - there's only so much he can do! I'm glad there's no sign of us taking our eye off the ball with the academy since Ashworth left. Keep those signings coming.
-
Was about to say that. Hopefully not too much of a problem, but I could imagine the situation would filter out some candidates who were looking for easy street.
-
I'm similar although pretty confident it's all good. More than most, with his Bournemouth history, he'll know the wheeling and dealing that can be required when you're trying to claw your way to the top.
-
I reckon so. I'm a bit nervous after the last few days, but it looks like we've cleared our decks successfully and I believe we've got room to do some pretty serious spending for the rest of this summer. I don't think he'd be trying to force his way out for a lowball offer in those circumstances, I think he's ready for another big season with us.
-
That's fair enough, the money will be welcome, but it just would've been even more welcome 24 hours later is all, which looks like a smoking gun to me.
-
Yes, but if it was a sale of pure choice it would've been more beneficial to wait 24 hours and do it today - the first day of the new PSR period. That way we'd still feel the benefit of the profit in June 2027. As it is, that profit will expire in 25/26 - a straightforward negative for us.
