Staying in Amsterdam is a better option but we stayed right opposite the station in a decent B&B type place. The walk back from the match was chaos though. They shut the car park gates so we had top walk about a mile to get about 20 yards from where we started. There were no taxis or signposts to the centre and we just guessed. After about 40 mins we walked smack into their fans kicking off with the Police who were stopping them getting the Toon fans wating for the train. We had to get escorted to the hotel by 2 policemen on bikes. Decent place but nowt special.

A Swedish mate of mine who i travel down to games with has mentioned this goon a few times in less than complementary manner. Says that he'd always run the club for profit, marketing tickets as exclusive when anyone making a phone call to SJp would know they were going to be available to the General public like the Valerenga home game and Lillestrom away. Some of us who went to Lillestrom attended one of the 'private' parties which we walked freely into and it amounted to a pub with some Toon CDs on. I think someone set up a rival 'free' club a while back but don't know how they got on.

The further agony for Scotlnd is that they finish their games before everyone else so they could be top of the group after their last game and then still not qualify as its Ukraine v France and Italy v Faroe Islands. However that's a tough game to finish with for the French though.

Basically means one of the WC finalists will not qualify for the finals. Well, unless Scotland chuck it all away. Thats bollocks tbh With only two points in it and Scotland having the worst run of games out of the top three we could easily still not qualify. Ukraine and Italy and home and Georgia away are far from easy games and I still wouldn't be surprised if we did not qualify. Too right. France will get 9 from 9, where Scotland will bottle it in Georgia and if not at home to Ukraine, then it'll be beat Italy or nowt.

The Toon won my first away game at Leicester in 1984 3-2. I was sat in the home fans and despite being encourage to keep quiet when we scored that didn't really work. Saying that, even Leicester fans wouldn't beat up a 6 year old, though they may have taken it out on my dad. I've always got slated for my away record but given we are usually quite bad away i'm not sure its too different. Having seen probably over 100 games away one of my favourite would be Leeds 4-3, apart from the semi's and all the european games.
